Alanis Morissette and Her Husband Souleye Have Been Married for 12 Years: Inside Their Family
Alanis Morissette and Souleye have been happily married for over a decade since tying the knot the year after they met. The musicians have collaborated on several music releases.
Alanis Morissette and her husband, Souleye, have been one of the strong couples in the music scene and have been happily married for over a decade.
Souleye, born Mario Treadway, shares the same passion for music as his wife. The rapper, whose music is inspired by his spirituality, even collaborated with Morissette to produce "Soul Angel" in February 2017. However, they formed the most significant partnership as parents to their three children.
According to Morissette, her connection with Treadway was life-changing and brought her out of her comfort zone. However, their relationship turned out to be for the best.
Alanis Morissette and Souleye's Marriage
The couple first crossed paths at a California meditation gathering and dated soon after in 2009. Morissette and Treadway tied the knot the year after in a private wedding ceremony. The "You Oughtta Know" singer said:
"I would date people, and there would be something about me that would hit a brick wall with whomever I was sitting across from. And with Souleye, when I first met him, I could see that there was this limitless to where we could go."
Throughout their relationship, Morisette and Treadeye collaborated in making several songs, including the rapper's "Ego" and "Snow Angel," among others. Morissette supported her husband's work and was excited about working together.
Similarly, Treadway called it an honor to work with Morisette, whom he referred to as his inspiration. According to the artist, work became a means to bond and have fun for them.
Alanis Morissette and Souleye's Three Children
The couple became parents the same year they married and welcomed their son, Ever. Six years later, in 2016, they had a daughter named Onyx. When she arrived, Ever found his person and started to have real conversations with his parents.
In 2019, Morissette and Treadway became parents of three with the birth of their youngest son, Winter Mercy. Morissette has spoken about motherhood publicly and advocated for normalizing breastfeeding in public.
During "The Billy Bush Show" in 2012, Morissette claimed that breastfeeding benefits the child when they grow up. "That stage of development is a very important stage," she added.
Alanis Morissette's Relationships before Marriage
Before meeting Treadway, Morissette entered into relationships with potential partners. In 1992, she dated Dave Coulier, who she stayed with for two years. Although their romance ended, they reconnected shortly after and remained friends. Morissette even sang to Coulier's sister while she was hospitalized.
Morissette dated Dash Mihok from 1998 until 20019. The "Ray Donovan" actor even appeared in the singer's "So Pure" music video in 1999.
In the early 2000s, Morissette was famously in love with actor Ryan Reynolds. Their romantic relationship began in 2002 and escalated when he proposed in 2004. At that time, Morissette revealed that Reynolds was the person she could spend forever with, as it felt like they were already family.
The pair remained engaged for a few years but eventually called it quits. The news shocked fans, but the duo did not disclose the reason for their separation.
Despite their split, Morissette and Reyolds remained close friends. Morissette later revealed that their breakup caused her devastation and heartbreak, calling it a horrifying time in her life. In 2008, she released "Torch," a song on her "Flavors of Entanglement" album, which some said was about her grief.
The same year, Morissette was linked to another actor, Tom Ballanco. Her relationship with the medical marijuana activist lasted two years, ending in 2009.
Although Morissette's past relationships did not work out, they seemed to be for the better as she met the man of her dreams later on.
