Jacklyn Bezos Gave Birth to Son Jeff at 17 & Raised Him Alone While Enduring Criticism at School
Jacklyn Bezos is a prime example of perseverance. As a teenage mom to her son, she was almost expelled from school, but she fought for her education. Attaining a diploma and, later, tertiary qualifications mattered dearly to Jacklyn, as she went as far as taking night classes with her baby.
Jacklyn Bezos and her husband, Miguel "Mike" Bezos, believed in their son when they invested over $200 000 into his online retail business idea in 1995. With Amazon's humongous success, that investment has made her one of the wealthiest people globally.
However, her story has humble beginnings, where Jacklyn fought hard to care for her son and had to shelve her dream of becoming a college graduate for a time. And while other hardships followed, she wasn't alone. Jacklyn's family cheered her on and provided her with a solid support system that even her son acknowledged.

Jacklyn Bezos Was Forced to Quit School When She Had Her Son
It had only been two weeks after her 17th birthday when Jacklyn gave birth to her firstborn, Jeff Bezos, in Alburquerque, New Mexico. The authorities at her high school threatened to expel her, but Jacklyn pushed back as she was determined to finish her schooling.
Eventually, they allowed her to return, but under stringent conditions. Regarding the first condition, the school administrators required Jacklyn to arrive on the school grounds within five minutes of the starting and finishing bells.
The second condition forbade her from speaking with the other students. The third stated that she was not allowed to eat in the cafeteria. Then with the final condition, she would miss the opportunity to ascend the stage alongside her classmates to receive her diploma.
Jacklyn accepted these conditions and graduated high school. Decades later, Jeff reflected on his mother's experience, revealing that his grandfather supported her when she fought for her education. Still, he acknowledged how difficult it was for Jacklyn, saying:
"I can assure you that being a pregnant teenager in high school was not cool in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at that time. And so it was very difficult for her."
Jacklyn Bezos Used to Bring Her Baby Son to Night School While Raising Him as a Single Teen Mom
When Jeff was 17 months old, Jacklyn and his father, Ted Jorgensen, had divorced. Jacklyn had been taking secretary classes in the afternoons and had learned enough to secure a job to care for herself and her son.
Jacklyn's ex-husband, Ted, claimed he'd only remained in contact with his son until he reached three.
Although she described herself as a "terrible typist," Jacklyn found employment as a secretary, which paid her enough for an apartment. She still couldn't afford a phone and had to use a walkie-talkie to stay in contact with her family.
After the last tumultuous years of high school, Jacklyn persistently pursued higher education. She enrolled in college night classes where she picked her subjects according to which professors would allow her to bring her infant child.
Jacklyn recalled how she needed to carry two duffel bags; one for her textbooks and one for Jeff's bottles, diapers, and items to keep him occupied while she engaged in the lessons. However, Jacklyn's college journey was still full of setbacks and delays.
At 40, Jacklyn finally ascended the stage to receive her tertiary certificate at the College of St. Elizabeth. She told her story as she delivered her commencement address at Cambridge College in June 2019 and was accompanied by Jeff.
Jacklyn Bezos Allegedly Forbade His Son's Biological Father to See Him When She Remarried
During one of her night classes in college, Jacklyn met Cuban immigrant Miguel "Mike" Bezos, the man who would soon become her long-time husband. After Jacklyn and Miguel married, Miguel adopted his wife's son and gave him his last name – Jeff Bezos. Soon after, they welcomed two more children, Christina and Mark.
Jacklyn's ex-husband, Ted, claimed he'd only remained in contact with his son until he reached three. Ted said he was reluctant to allow the adoption, but he agreed, even after Jacklyn asked him to cease contact. Still, it was a regrettable decision as he never spoke with Jeff again until he died at 70 in 2015.
Jacklyn has reaped the fruits of her efforts and sacrifices, as her wealth likely surpassed that of Tesla's Elon Musk and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. Her billionaire son believed her story was incredible and was proud of her accomplishments
