Maggie is finally happy that she found love after a nasty divorce. But there's one thing that might challenge her new relationship her deaf son. Will she introduce him to her new man or hide him?

Maggie arrived at her parents' house at midday, her little boy in tow and her shoulders laden with bags and bags of his clothes.

She finally found love after her divorce a year ago. However, she faced a significant challenge. Her 2-year-old son, Jayden, was deaf. She knew if she told her new boyfriend, Manor, he might feel too overwhelmed with the responsibility, and he might opt out of the relationship.

She would eventually tell him... just not now. She figured she would first work on her relationship with Manor, and when she was sure it was something solid, she would let that information out.

In the meantime, she would have her parents, Eunice and Tony, take care of her little boy. "Mom! Dad!" she screamed as she entered the living room of her parents' house.

It had been a while since they saw her, and they were glad she had visited. "Welcome home, Maggie. Oh, and my handsome little boy!" Maggie's mom said, cupping little Jayden's cheeks in the palms of her hands.

After they had caught up on what they had been up to the past few months, Maggie broke the news. "I've found a new man, and I want to see where the relationship goes before I can introduce him to Jayden."

"It seems like a worthwhile thought, but how long do you think it will be before you can introduce him to your son?" her father asked, concerned.

"So you lied to me for three years? I don't believe this! This wedding is canceled!" he said and stormed out of the venue.

"Dad, Jayden is deaf, and I don't want to rush. What if I scare him with the responsibility of caring for a deaf child?"

"But Maggie, if he loves you, he will love your child as well," her mother tried reasoning with her, but she had made up her mind.

Her parents could not understand it, but they were glad to spend time with their grandbaby. After all, they never got to see him much anymore. It was their chance to be the doting grandparents they constantly desired to be.

Days turned to months, and months into years. Three years after dropping her son off at her parents' house, Maggie was yet to come to pick him up.

Her parents did not understand why it had taken her so long. The situation was made worse by the fact that Maggie had cut off all lines of communication with her parents. She had not seen or spoken to her son all this while!

And then, one day, when collecting his morning paper from the mailbox, Maggie's dad pulled out what seemed to be a wedding invitation addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Fox. That was him and his lovely wife.

He rushed inside, called out to his wife, and they opened it together.

The family of Mr. and Mrs. Noah Stevens requests the pleasure of your company to celebrate the marriage of Maggie Fox and Manor Stevens on August 20, 2019, at 2:30 p.m ...

"Maggie's getting married?" Eunice and Tony stared at each other, only too aware of what the other was thinking.

"Do you think she told him about Jayden?" Tony was the first to voice his concern.

"I doubt it. Her boyfriend would have asked to see him," she answered, shaking her head in disappointment.

Tony's head dropped, and he could not read the invitation further. He folded it up, intending to put it back into the envelope when a small note fell out. It was addressed to them and was a request from Maggie not to bring little Jayden to the wedding ceremony.

"Manor is quite wealthy, and soon, I will afford his surgery. He doesn't have to know," read the note.

Right there and then, Eunice and Tony decided they would no longer be part of their daughter's devious scheme. They would bring Jayden to the ceremony, come what may.

Two months later, Maggie stood opposite her soon-to-be husband, looking gorgeous in her wedding gown. She was about to say her vows to Manor when she saw a little boy running down the aisle from the corner of her eye.

She quickly looked and was shocked to see Jayden running toward her with his arms raised, ready for a hug. It had been a long three years without seeing his mother, and he had missed her incredibly.

Maggie glanced at her confused fiancé, even as she noticed her parents closing in on her. "Maggie, we could not let you lie to a man you're planning on spending your life with," Tony declared, picking Jayden up.

"Manor, this is Maggie's son. She kept him away from you because she was worried you would leave her once you found out she had a deaf son."

"This is unbelievable, Maggie! How could you do that to me? Don't you know by now that I would have loved and accepted him anyway?"

"I'm sorry, Manor. I didn't want to burden you with raising a deaf child," cried Maggy.

"So you lied to me for three years? I don't believe this! This wedding is canceled!" he said and stormed out of the venue.

Maggie followed him out of the church and begged him to forgive her. She would do anything to make it up to him, she said. She said she understood his reaction and was sorry for keeping her son a secret.

Manor was angry, but he loved Maggie and said he would forgive her. However, he needed some time alone to figure things out.

When he was ready to talk, he would reach out to her. He, however, promised to cater for Jayden's surgery so he could have his hearing back.

What can we learn from this story?

  • Honesty is paramount, whatever the circumstances. If Maggie had been honest with her boyfriend about her deaf son, he would have accepted and loved him regardless.
  • Always stand for what is right. Maggie's parents decided to tell the truth as they did not want to be part of her devious scheme.
