It pains a parent to bury their child; this was the case for Héctor, whose son's death was a huge blow to his family.

However, their union didn't last as the couple called it quits after one year of marriage. Since Héctor was more financially stable than his ex-wife, he kept the baby and raised him.

At the time, Rodd's dad dreamed of venturing into the acting industry. So, he spent most of his time working in a neon light factory; he would then drive a truck to attend the City College of New York at night. As a young father, Rodd's dad was focused; he dreamed of playing for the Yankees.

In 1997, Héctor revealed to Los Angeles Times that he dropped out of college and started working to take care of his son:

After divorcing Rodd's mother, Héctor's parents and sister helped him raise his son. Héctor married for the second time just so that his son would have a complete family; unfortunately, the union did not last.

Rodd Tried an Acting Career like His Dad

Rodd followed in his father's footsteps and once ventured into acting. He had one acting credit on IMDb for the 1963 film ''The Doctors.'' However, he was passionate about teaching and worked as a preschool teacher in San Francisco.
