After spending years trying to conceive, William's parents – Kirstie and her husband, Parker Stevenson – fell pregnant in 1990. His now-late elated mother spent $23,000 on maternity and baby clothes and prepared a nursery for her expected child.

However, her excitement was stunted when she suffered a miscarriage eight weeks into her pregnancy. William's mother's emotional loss outweighed her physical one, as she was in the early stages of her pregnancy when her body rejected the egg.

To make their dreams of becoming parents come true, William's parents turned to adoption, which cost them $25,000 in medical bills, legal fees, and William's birth mother's living expenses – All in anticipation of welcoming a baby.

William was born on October 5, 1992, and came into their lives on October 12, 1992. After meeting his parents, William, his dad, and his late mom shut out the world and spent the first week bonding with their newborn in the cocoon of their home.

Before welcoming her second child, William's mother said his birth had "the most exhilarating effect to date" on her life. While reminiscing about her first moments with William, Kirstie said:

"There was no break-in period, no adoptive-parent syndrome. It was natural and profound. We had located each other. He was worth the heartache and the wait."

William's parents gave him his first name in honor of his maternal great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, Clifford William Alley. His second name, True, was a long-standing name in the Stevenson family.

His late mother also liked names that had a combination of different numbered syllables. However, despite all the thoughtfulness behind William's name, it was rarely what he was called.

His late mother used to call him a slew of nicknames, from "The Intruder" to "Bud" and "Butter," which also had a sentimental story behind it. William's late mother shared:

"True has always smelled like sugar and butter combined. My nickname for him is 'Butter.' I've never smelled anyone who smells as good as True. (The) perfectly clean scent of sugar, butter, and a tiny hint of lemon– and that's his natural scent."

William Did Not Follow in the Footsteps of His Famous Mother

William's mother sensed he would venture into the music industry when he was a child. According to his late mom, William is an old soul. He never set his sights on accumulating fame. Instead, he was passionate about the words and melodies in his music and how they made him feel.

Her words proved true, as William maintained a low profile, especially on social media, and is not a well-known musician. Kirstie also admired William's quirky sense of humor. He was raised to believe in Scientology and had his bravery as his weakness and strength.

William's mother joked that he was the most gullible child growing up, but he learned to differentiate the good guys from the bad ones over the years.

In line with his private nature, he rarely appeared on his mother's social media. However, in 2018, William's mother took to Instagram to share a black-and-white picture of him and ended her caption with a red heart.

William also took to social media from time to time to document his life as a licensed captain. With 51 posts and 1,253 followers at the time of writing, William co-owned Rebel Coast Charters – a fishing charters company – with his wife, Sara.

William Is Not the Only Adopted Child in the Family

William became an older brother when Kirstie Alley and her now-ex opted for adoption a second time and adopted his sister, Lillie, in 1994. Like her older brother, Lillie rarely made public appearances, bar accompanying her mother to red-carpet events.

After losing her high school boyfriend, Lillie found love again and announced her engagement on Instagram. And in May 2021, she welcomed her first child.
