Edith's parents were born in Australia. Her mother, Cate, is a famous Oscar-winning actress from Victoria and graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art in New South Wales. In her younger years, Cate met Andrew, who quickly became her husband.

Andrew is best known for his playwriting at Royal National Theatre in London and the Sydney Theatre Company in Sydney. The pair met while Cate was acting in a Chekov play in Australia. The couple boasts more than two decades of marriage.

Edith Vivian Patricia had her life changed for good when she became the adoptive child of the "Cinderella" star, Cate, who had her sights set on adoption since the birth of her first child with her husband, Andrew.

Cate has always had a place in her heart for children in need. The Australian actress describes the outcome of their adoptive child being female as luck rather than intent. Edith's mother had three sons before her: Dashiell, 20; Roman, 17; and Ignatius, 13.

Reflecting on how her children developed a bond with their non-biological sibling, the actress recalled when, as kids, she and her siblings lived on an entirely different frequency from their parents. She described Edith's arrival thus: "It's extraordinary. It's been an absolute gift, and we're utterly besotted."

Edith Was Photographed by Paparazzi Soon after the Adoption

Cate and her husband adopted Edith in 2015, and the actress's spokesperson announced the good news in March of that year. It was also revealed that the Australian family would be relocating to the United States during the year.

Besides her role in "Cinderella," Edith's adoption into her new family was a focal topic in Cate's interviews. The attention was on her new daughter, who paparazzi photographed. Responding to some of the many images taken of Edith at the time, Cate declared with a mother's pride that her daughter was more beautiful in real life.

Married since 1997, Edith's parents became engaged within three weeks from the day they met. Her mother is a famous actress whose talents, combined with her father's playwright and production creativity, made the couple a formidable force in Hollywood.

Contrary to their 25-year run in marriage, their initial impressions of each other were not so romantic, with the Australians feeling disdain toward each other in the first few days.

The "Oceans 8" actress takes her daughter to some of the most prestigious events in the entertainment and fashion world. Edith was spotted with her mother at the 2018 Paris Fashion Week, dressed in a long-sleeved floral top and green tights. A then-three-year-old Edith grabbed all the attention with her rare appearance.

She made another appearance at the 79th Venice Film Festival on September 10 this year. Cate wore a black dress as a symbol of respect for Queen Elizabeth II's passing, accompanied by her only daughter, who shone in her velvet dress and chic wedges.

Edith is closely cared for by her famous mother, whether they are globetrotting or in the comfort of their family abode. During the COVID-19 lockdown, Cate was tasked with homeschooling her four kids. The actress found it feasible until it came to teaching Edith. She explained:

"She wouldn't start the classes until we had a full array of stuffed animals, all of which had the names of all the people in her class. It felt like some weird kind of cross between 'The Muppets' and 'MasterClass.' It was quite traumatic, actually."

The actress humorously shared how it took her just two weeks to configure that she was not cut out for an elementary school syllabus and referred to herself as a "dead duck" in that regard.

Edith and Her Brothers Became a Welcoming Unit When She Arrived

The revered film couple adopted Edith, adding her to their hat-trick of sons. Her eldest brother Dashiel was born on December 3, 2001. Dashiel has branched out of his parents' nest and is currently at film school.

After Dashiel, Edith's parents welcomed Roman on April 23, 2004. Named after Sharon Tate's husband, Roman Polanski, Cate's second son has been kept from the media's gaze. However, he has made several appearances at major events, like his younger sister.

Ignatius is Edith's youngest brother, nicknamed Iggy. Edith's mother explained that she and her husband were out of name ideas while pregnant with their youngest son and randomly gained inspiration from "Captain Underpants" children's novel.

Cate and Andrew's sons were delighted when introduced to their new sibling. Cate explained to The Sydney Morning Herald the reception Edith received from her brothers:

"I find it extraordinary, glimpsing them becoming a unit. And a very welcoming unit. I'm very proud of them."

Edith's life took a fortunate turn for the better when her parents felt they had just enough love for one more child, regardless of gender. Subsequently, her parents joined the company of other actors who have grown their families through adoption.
