Amy Lee Nelson Influenced Her Father's Music - Facts about Willie Nelson's Daughter
Amy Lee Nelson, Willie Nelson, and Connie Koepke's youngest daughter spent two decades trying to convince her father to record one of her favorite songs. After he agreed, the project became a family affair and went on to land a 2002 Grammy nomination for country album of the year.
Amy and her father working on "Rainbow Connection" from "The Muppet Movie" was one of many projects the father/ daughter duo collaborated on.
She was not the first of his children to follow in his musical footsteps, with Amy having years of experience in the music industry. However, she revealed it had not always been smooth sailing as she struggled with stage fright.
Amy Persuaded Her Father to Record a Kermit the Frog Song
Born on July 6, 1973, in Austin, Amy was five when she watched "The Muppet Movie" for the first time and fell in love with the single "Rainbow Connection." She spent the following twenty years convincing her dad to record the track and used her musical prowess to produce it. Amy said:
"It was such a beautiful song, and it never stopped being beautiful as I got older. I never outgrew The Muppets. There was something that appealed– there was just a timelessness."
Soon, recording the track snowballed into an extended-family affair of mixing songs Willie once sang to his kids and a few adult-themed songs that turned into the legendary singer's only children's album. Amy wrote and sang two songs that made it onto "The Rainbow Collection."
Amy Has Been a Member of a Music Group for over 20 Years
After her parents divorced, Amy was a teenager when she relocated to San Franciso with her mother. In 1998, she joined forces with Cathy Guthrie, daughter of Arlo Guthrie, and they created their group, Folk Uke.
Cathy grew up on the East Coast but was a student at San Diego State. Their paths crossed in the late '90s when they worked together at a restaurant and bar run by Ingrid Croce, the wife of the late singer-songwriter Jim Croce.

Although the two singers and songwriters do not lead with the fact that they are the children of musical greats, they shared they were not embarrassed by their fathers. Amy said:
"I don't think either of us (minds) talking about our dads or anything like that because they're actually really cool. I think we've influenced our dads' music in a lot of ways."
During the beginning stages of their group, Amy and Cathy bonded over their shared performance anxiety. "One thing Cathy and I share is that we had pretty serious stage fright when we started," Amy said.
They overcame their fear with humor, explaining that folk music could be serious at times and that making people laugh was a welcomed change.
And after they mastered the instrument, Amy and Cathy incorporated the ukelele and the guitar into their sound on tracks like "Knock Me Up," a single from their self-titled 2005 debut album.
Amy Lee Nelson's Personal Life
While Amy does not share certain aspects of her life on social media, like whether or not she is married with children, she often takes to Instagram to document her life as an animal lover.
Among her many cats and dogs, Amy has a pet turtle, and in 2012, she rescued two abused horses when she adopted them with the help of her father. Amy said:
"We're thankful for the opportunity to make their lives better."

Amy's Siblings Are Talented in Their Own Way
Before Amy's birth, Willie Nelson and Connie Koepke welcomed her older sister, Paula, in 1969. Paula is one of Willie's many children to follow in his footsteps, with five studio albums under her belt. She also hosts "The Paula Nelson Show."
Amy has six step-siblings from her father's previous relationships, including fellow musicians Willie Nelson Jr., Lukas Nelson, and Micah Nelson.
