Schumer, 44, confirmed in December 2025 that she had lost 50 pounds, not as a lifestyle choice, but as the result of a serious hormonal condition she described as potentially life-threatening.

"I didn't lose 30 lbs I lost 50," [sic] she wrote, addressing months of public speculation about her appearance. The reaction online was immediate and intense.

What Did Amy Schumer Look Like Before and After the Weight Loss?

Comparing photos of Schumer from 2025 to images captured just days ago tells a clear story. In earlier pictures, her face appeared notably fuller. In more recent photos, she looks visibly slimmer, with a far more defined frame overall.

The difference is significant enough that even longtime fans were caught off guard by just how pronounced the transformation had become.

Online reactions were sharply divided. "She looks fantastic!!!" wrote one commenter, while another echoed the sentiment, "She looks amazing!!!"

Others were more measured. "She looks a lot thinner," one person observed, while another offered simply, "She's something different."

Not every comment landed warmly. "Her face doesn't match her body," one social media user noted, while another expressed concern more directly, "She looks unwell."

Weight loss medication speculation was not far behind. "Looks like she's been hitting the Ozempic too hard," one commenter posted. Schumer has addressed that kind of speculation directly and at length.

What Health Conditions Has Amy Schumer Spoken About?

The weight loss is rooted in a medical diagnosis. Schumer was diagnosed with Cushing syndrome in 2024, a condition in which the body produces too much of the stress hormone cortisol over a prolonged period.

According to the National Institutes of Health, Cushing syndrome can cause significant weight gain, a rounded and puffy face, and, if left untreated, can be fatal. It affects roughly three times as many women as men.

Schumer said she had been battling a condition that caused severe facial swelling and carried potentially life-threatening risks, adding that online speculation about her appearance ultimately led to the diagnosis being identified and treated.

She also explained that the weight loss was driven by health concerns and survival rather than cosmetic goals, even though she admitted enjoying the physical changes.

Her medical history extends well before that diagnosis. Schumer underwent surgery in September 2021 to have her uterus and appendix removed following a severe endometriosis diagnosis.

She had also announced a Lyme disease diagnosis in 2020. When the Cushing syndrome diagnosis came in early 2024, she said she had spent hours in MRI machines and had her veins worn down from the volume of blood drawn, all while continuing to appear on camera.

Has Amy Schumer Used Weight Loss Medication?

Schumer has been transparent about her use of weight loss medication as part of her broader health journey.

In March 2025, the comedian disclosed that she was taking Mounjaro, a drug FDA-approved to treat Type 2 diabetes, after an earlier experience with Wegovy left her severely nauseous. She added:

"I couldn't handle it. I don't know if they've changed the formula. Whatever."

She also disclosed having had plastic surgery in the past, and her candor on the subject is consistent with a position she has held for years.

In 2023, Schumer also criticized celebrities who used weight loss drugs or underwent cosmetic procedures without being honest about it publicly, arguing that public figures should be transparent with audiences about how they achieved dramatic transformations. She said:

"Be real with the people."

What Else Has Amy Schumer Been Going Through Recently?

Even as the conversation around her appearance has dominated headlines, Schumer has described herself as being in a surprisingly positive place personally. Speaking at a live event on May 17, 2026, she said:

“I feel happier than I've ever been before.”

But she also revealed that a recent medical procedure had affected how she was feeling physically and emotionally.

“I actually had kind of a botched colonoscopy, so I’m not feeling very sexual,” she told the audience.

A colonoscopy is a routine medical examination of the large intestine, commonly used for cancer screening and to diagnose gastrointestinal conditions. According to Cleveland Clinic, complications from the procedure are rare but can occur.

One online commenter connected the dots in their own way, writing, "A botched colonoscopy can possibly result in needing to use a colostomy bag. And I can understand why that would make her feel less sexy."

The health updates come as Schumer manages a significant personal transition.

She filed for divorce from chef Chris Fischer in January 2026, just weeks after announcing their separation the previous month. The two share a seven-year-old son named Gene.

Despite the split, a source said the former couple was still living together for Gene's sake. "They are still largely under the same roof, for the kid's sake," the insider said, adding that Schumer "wants them to continue to be very much united when it comes to raising their son."

A further source said that Schumer "just never wants to be romantically involved with him again."

While reactions to Schumer’s appearance continue online, the comedian has made it clear that her transformation was shaped by serious health struggles and major personal changes far beyond weight loss alone.
