“His Own Flesh and Blood”: Matt Damon Wears Tattoo of Adopted Daughter’s Name & Cheers for Her at Soccer
Matt Damon proves that true kinship is a matter of the heart, not blood, as he cares for his 22-year-old adopted daughter like she was his own.
Matt Damon met his wife in Miami. He was out with his friends and she was a bartender at the club. The actor spotted Luciana Barroso from across the room; it was like she had a spotlight shining over her. Once the Oscar winner caught her attention, he never let go. He admits he fell in love with her that night.
Not wanting the night to end, the "Good Will Hunting" star asked Barroso to go out with him and his friends. She declined, explaining that she had a four-year-old daughter at home. Damon was impressed by her consideration for her child, and she liked that it didn't run him off. They connected over their shared value for family.

However, Barroso remembers the events of that night a bit differently. She was a bartender at the club Damon patronized with his friends. When some intoxicated fans got aggressive, he took refuge behind the bar where she was working. Speaking about how she felt about the A-lister, Barroso said:
“We definitely had a connection right away, it was so easy to talk to each other; we were very comfortable. When you meet somebody that you have a connection with, that’s just the person that you have a connection with, all the other stuff— the movie-star part—wasn’t really a factor.”
Behind the bar, Damon got to work, helping Barroso make drinks and getting a ton of tips. Fifteen years on from that fun night, the couple is going strong. Damon has said he is so happy and blessed because meeting his wife was like hitting the jackpot.

An Absolute Blessing
When Barroso met the actor and producer, she was a divorcée, raising her daughter Alexia from her previous marriage. In 2005, she and Damon got married, and he stepped into the role of stepfather to the little girl, building a loving bond with her.
Like the Grinch, Damon's heart has grown to accommodate all his girls, and the proud father's heart is full. Adopting Alexia was a primer for all that was to come.
From the get-go, Damon has treated Alexia "like she is his own flesh and blood," according to Barroso. For this reason, sthe mother of four feels lucky to have her husband in her life, because he is "an absolute blessing" to her eldest daughter.

The couple added three more girls to the family: Isabella in 2006, Gia in 2008, and Stella in 2010. Damon never thought he would be surrounded by girls, but he has said that it is excellent, though he never knows what will happen next. Speaking about what it's like to raise girls, the dad of four said:
"I’m learning so much, not the least of which is how much smarter girls are. I operated under the assumption that us guys had a chance, but I realized when I was completely wrapped around my 2-year-old’s finger, and she knew it."
He has also compared being a girl-dad to the lead character in "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." Like the Grinch, Damon's heart has grown to accommodate all his girls, and the proud father's heart is full. Adopting Alexia was a primer for all that was to come.

Damon Is a Supportive Dad
Now that his eldest is 22, the "Ocean's Eleven" star continues to be a massive support in her life. He takes an interest in what she likes to do and shows up, not as a movie star but as her dad, like attending Alexia's soccer games to cheer for her from the stands and give her a hug and a smile at the end of the game.
Damon carries his girls in his heart and on his arm. In 2019, he commissioned his friend, Heath Ledger's tattoo artist, to give him and his wife a heartfelt tattoo with all their girls' names. The actor placed his next to one he got previously in honor of his wife.
Barroso and Damon mostly keep out of the spotlight and have sheltered their girls from the perpetual glare of the media, allowing Alexia, Isabella, Gia, and Stella to have a pretty normal childhood.
Damon has his family to thank for having less scrutiny from the paparazzi because he is happy and scandal-free. Speaking about how he and his wife handle unwanted media attention, Damon said:
“I got lucky. Not an actress and not a famous actress at that. But I don’t really give them [the paparazzi] anything. They can try to stake me out, but they’re always going to get the same story — middle-aged married guy with four kids.”

Alexia is also following in her stepdad's footsteps and taking an interest in show business. She had a minor role in Damon's 2011 film, "We Bought a Zoo," and was behind the scenes in his 2019 project, "Ford v Ferrari." Alexia sometimes accompanies her dad to industry events like movie premieres.
Matt Damon and Luciana Barroso are determined to keep that spark from that memorable night in Miami alight. Ten years after their first wedding, they renewed their vows in a lavish, family-oriented ceremony in St. Lucia with their friends and their children.
