Akon on Having Mulitple Wives: The Singer Once Explained Why He Thinks It Is 'Easier'

Akon's wives are rumored to be around three, but the singer has never revealed the actual number. He once stated that having more than one wife is easier than just having one, but his explanation baffled his interviewer.

Akon is quite open about his musical career, but one thing he doesn't talk about freely and extensively is his marriage. On October 16, 2022, the singer appeared on radio host and actor Big Boy's TikTok, where he spoke about having several wives.

When asked how many wives he had, Akon said he liked it when people speculated. Big Boy revealed he had one wife and asked the musician if he had more than him. The star confessed that he did without a doubt.

Akon explained his choice for having more than one wife, noting how Big Boy's life is "difficult" because he always has to focus on "one thing." According to the singer, having multiple wives was a "lot more easier."

He likened having multiple wives to having four different colored Ferrarris he could change into daily with different outfits to match, making his life easier. However, if he had only one red one, he'd have to contemplate what he'd look like in it tomorrow, each day after that, and next week.

Akon felt variety made life free and open, but the host disagreed. Although he refused to give a specific number when asked about his wives, he once shared his thoughts about different types of relationships.

What Are Akon's Thoughts on Monogamy and Polygamy?

Akon was once asked if he thought having more than one woman was more beneficial for a man. The singer said there'd be fewer disputes if America adopted a polygamy policy because an average man had their leading woman, another one on the side, and a third!

He believes men are "natural breeders," and it is something they can't escape. Akon thought marriage "solidifies a relationship between a man and a woman spiritually in God's eyes." To him, that meant a man could be spiritually attached to multiple women.

He felt if a man could find a woman who fulfilled every desire he had, that would motivate him to stick with only her. However, he thought finding such a person, male or female, was impossible.

How Many of Akon's Wives Are Known?

Per his Angie Martinez conversation, Akon was asked to reveal his many wives during one interview. Instead of answering directly, the artist confessed that he'd initially thought he could be open with his fans and supporters about it with Martinez, but things got out of hand.

The singer then realized he couldn't have an open conversation about it. In a 2007 Jet magazine interview, he confessed to having at least one wife. At the time, a movie about his life, "Illegal Alien," was in the works, and he denied being married, but in his liner notes, Akon reportedly thanked his "wife Tomeka."

It was rumored back then that the musician had three wives before reality show offers started coming in, with him saying he had "wiveys" but refusing to give a number. In August 2018, Tomeka Thiam opened up her Instagram account for questions from followers.

One person asked her if she recalled the first time she met Akon and to share how that experience was. Tomeka said she met the artist through her brother at a friend's apartment in Georgia. She, 18, and the singer, 20, couldn't stop staring at each other, with her adding:

"Then he put that West African spell on me!"

Tomeka joked that she's been trying to shake that spell off since. Another woman who claimed to be one of Akon's wives is reality television star Tricia Ana. In a 2019 interview, Tricia described the confusing and alleged love triangle with the artist that led him to be her husband.
