Dad Sells His Car to Feed Family — Can Hardly Contain Emotions 15 Years Later Seeing It in His Yard Again
A man was surprised by his sudden reality when his family gifted him with the exact same car he had to sell years ago because of their difficult financial situation. He turned emotional and could hardly believe it was real.
Dads do everything they can for their families, even if that means setting aside their wants for the sake of their family. For one particular dad, he never imagined ever seeing his favorite car again after he sold it fifteen years ago so he could have enough money to feed his family.
Back in the day, Denny had a prized white 1959 Edsel Ranger, which had unique teal blue accents, which he took to the yearly car show. He looked forward to it every year; it was his unique bonding activity with his late brother.
A Beautiful Car with Special Memories
Denny and his brother worked on the car together and took it on many rides around the country. The car was home to many of their memories, so more than its physical beauty, Denny cherished its sentimental value above everything.
It wasn't just Denny and his late brother who had special memories with the car; his kids did, too. His son remembered working on the car with his dad and uncle a lot as a kid, and his sisters remembered taking joyrides in it.
Taking drives in the Edsel was a staple bonding activity for the family on weekends, which was a lot of fun for everyone growing up. Unfortunately, Denny had no choice but to sell it to support the family at a time when the economy wasn't doing too well.
Unfortunately, the owner didn't want to part ways with it and instead kept Denny's son's information along with other details in case he changed his mind.
His Only Option Was to Sell
During that time, the family had a hard time staying afloat and needed to sell some of their assets to continue living comfortably. So, although it broke his heart, Denny sold his car as it would bring in the most money. "It was his only option," his son recalls.
Despite physically letting go of the car, Denny didn't want it to be forgotten, so he framed photos of the car with his late brother and put them up in his office.
Years later, the thought of the beautiful car would still cross his children's minds. His son started to do some research to locate the vehicle in hopes that its owner would allow him to repurchase it.
Finding the Car Again
In 2018, Denny's son found the car and reached out to its owner. Unfortunately, the owner didn't want to part ways with it and instead kept Denny's son's information and other details in case he changed his mind.
Three years later, sometime after the car's owner passed away, his wife came across a note he had written about the car and suddenly remembered its story. She called Denny's son and allowed the family to buy the car from her.
Without hesitation, the son gathered his mom, sisters, brothers-in-law, and wife so they could decide what to do. It was a no-brainer for all of them—they knew they had to get the car back for Denny, whom they loved dearly.
A Special Birthday Gift
On the day of Denny's 67th birthday, the family gathered the man's grandchildren to hand him special cards that bore hints about his gift. Each card said: "Can we go for a ride, papaw?"
Denny thought he was getting a riding lawnmower, but to his surprise, behind him was the special car he once had to let go of, with a large ribbon on top of it. He was in for the surprise of his life!
Before turning around, his children asked him to read a couple of cards. The last one, they made him say aloud, and it read,"Can I get my [expletive] trans-am now?"
Confused, Denny asked his family, "What's going on?" Then, he looked behind him in disbelief and saw his Edel sitting in the garage.
Shocked at the Unexpected Surprised
Denny was almost in tears as he said, "You got to be kidding me." He was emotional, trying to stop his tears from falling. "Is this a dream or what?" he asked his family.
Still in shock, he walked around the beautiful car to inspect it, still dumbfounded by the surprise he never expected. "And that's it. I was really hoping for a Kubota," he joked.
Still admiring the car, Denny thanked his family for the priceless gift they gave him. He told them:
"Oh man, thanks, everyone, but this is nuts!"
A Special Homecoming Event
One of Denny's daughters noted that the car still had his dice plushy, which he hung on the rearview mirror years ago. "That's it!" he said as he sat down inside his old car again. It was an all-too-familiar feeling, and he could tell right away that it was his based on the car's interior.
He started the engine and sat there, letting it all sink in. His car was finally back with him! His son recalls his father being in shock for several days after receiving his special gift, and they couldn't feel happier that their dad enjoyed his gift.
To Denny, the car was more than just a utility vehicle—it was a memory bank, which he could now make more memories in, this time with his grown children and grandchildren.
Denny now takes his grandkids for rides the same way he did with his kids when they were younger. He takes them to get ice cream or for rides around town. Denny also attended several car shows again, just like in the good old days.
