Colleagues Are Stunned When Boss Proposes to the Janitor Everyone Mocked – Story of the Day

Sometimes, people will do the craziest things in the name of love. When Peter tries his best to win Karen's affection, she initially rejects his advances. Soon, she realizes there is much more to Peter than meets the eye.

Karen was raised to follow a specific path in life, and for the most part, she succeeded. She finished her law degree in record time and took over her parent's law firm at age 32. Her family always wanted the best for Karen and encouraged her to find a partner of status.

"You don't want to get conned by a crazy swindler. Stick to your people, and you'll always be safe," her father, David, told her. Despite dating men of stature in the corporate world, Karen had little luck with romance. She had dated partners from competing law firms, politicians, and successful businessmen.

Every relationship Karen had ever had was fleeting in nature. Karen would think that she had found someone special, only to realize that they shared nothing in common apart from their financial background. Men expected her to be impressed with them, even though she was just as hard-working as any of them.

"Why can't any of these men come along and sweep me off my feet? I just feel like I'm dating the same person over and over. Maybe I'm just a hopeless romantic," Karen told her friend, Lisa.

"You saved my life, and I want to give you a second shot in yours."

"The heart wants what the heart wants. Maybe the right guy for you will come from a place you least expect," Lisa responded. There came a time when Karen came close to marrying a tech millionaire.

Unfortunately, she discovered that he had been cheating on her. At her office, rumors began circling that the cleaner, Peter, had been Karen's secret admirer. She began to remember that Peter would always hold the door open for her. She had also been finding beautiful flowers on her desk in the morning.

"Dirty Peter has fallen in love with the boss! Be careful, we don’t want her to stink like you do!" Peter’s colleagues mocked him. Once Peter dreamed of being like them, but he dropped out of law school to take care of his sick father.

"Listen, Peter. I know that you're trying to be sweet and all. But this is inappropriate. I'm your boss. Also, if men see you flirting with me, they might think of me. No offense, obviously," Karen told Peter. Peter took this quite hard. It was always difficult at the firm for Peter.

Despite being of similar age, he didn't have the same background or opportunities as his superiors. He took the job at the law firm as a way of reminiscing on his past opportunities.

Out of desperation and infatuation for Karen, Peter hatched a secret plan. Later that evening, Karen had dinner with a successful entrepreneur named Chris. The two were hitting it off and sat for hours. Karen and Chris allowed their drivers to leave early, as they would drive home independently.

As they left the restaurant, a couple of random thugs attacked them on the street.

"Give us your money now!" The thugs yelled.

Chris immediately ran to his car to escape, leaving Karen to fend for herself. At that moment, Peter came sprinting out of a nearby pub and chased the thugs away.

"Oh my goodness, thank you so much. I was so scared," Karen told Peter as she hugged him. Peter suggested he take Karen's number so she could let him know when she arrived home safely. She agreed, but as Peter pulled his phone out, Karen made a realization.

One of the thugs was in Peter's phone wallpaper, and the two were clearly friends. "What's going on? Why is he on your phone?" Karen asked. "I-I can explain. I got them to play along. They weren't going to hurt you or anything. I just wanted you to see me as a hero. I'm so sorry," Peter said.

"I guess we're even for the prank now."

"What type of stupid prank is that, Peter? You're fired. Get out of here!" Karen said as she began to run to her car. As tears rolled down her face, Karen could hear a voice behind her yell, "LOOK OUT!"

She felt a hand grab her arm and pull her back with force. As she fell to the ground, she could see Peter getting hit by a car. As she crawled towards the crash site, she could tell that Peter was underneath the car and immediately called an ambulance.

She then drove to the hospital to wait for Peter to get out of surgery. A doctor came out to tell Karen the news."Peter's in critical condition. He's going to pull through, but it will take some time before he can walk properly again," the doctor said.

"Okay. I'll cover all of Peter's costs, by the way. I know how expensive it can be," Karen replied. She then went to visit Peter in his hospital bed.

When he regained consciousness, he immediately asked Karen, "Are you hurt?"

"I'm okay, thanks. You saved my life, Peter," Karen replied. "I guess we're even for the prank now," Peter joked.

Karen laughed before replying, "Listen, I know I said you were fired before, but I'd like to make you an offer. There's been some gossip in the office that you dropped out of law school. I'd like to send you back. You saved my life, and I want to give you a second shot in yours," Karen said.

Peter accepted, and Karen visited him daily in the hospital until he was discharged. She then brought him to the office in a wheelchair, where he received a hero's welcome. It was the first time he had been appreciated this way since he started working for the firm.

Much to his and all of their colleague's confusion, Karen got on one knee in front of him. Everyone in the firm froze in disbelief.

"I know this is crazy, but I don't care. No one has ever done such things for me, and to be honest, I was even impressed by your prank with those hooligans. No one has done that for me, either. My friend once told me I might find love in random places. And she couldn't have been more right. Peter. Janitor, future lawyer, my superhero. Will you marry me?" Karen asked.

"Absolutely! And thanks for not making me get on my knees," he joked. Karen and Peter got married a few months and had two kids together. Four years later, Peter finished his law degree and started working at the same firm where he used to work as a janitor.
