Lauren London's Parents: All We Know about the Actress's Mixed Race Family
Lauren London has experienced single parenthood twice, first as a child and now as a single mother. The actress was raised by her mother after her parents divorced while she was still young.
A product of mixed-race marriage, she faced multiple difficulties with identity. However, she managed to overcome those issues by getting a better understanding of herself and learning to be confident in her identity. Her participation in the Netflix film "You People" helped her understand her circumstances.
Now the mother of two is instilling that sense of identity into her children as part of her parental duties. However, it has not been all straightforward for her as a single mother, as she lost her boyfriend of six years, Nipsey Hussle, in 2019. The loss led to years of grieving, healing, and learning to be happy again.
Lauren London's Parents Divorced When She Was Only Three Years Old
London has been vocal about her upbringing and growing up as a mixed-race child. While discussing those topics on the "PEOPLE Every Day" podcast, she told the host, Janine Rubenstein, that her mother raised her, and her father was not around. Her parents separated when she was very young.
Her life has been a continuous learning journey about her identity, and her experience while filming "You People" was no different. The movie follows two lovers of different races wanting to marry. She claims that she learned much about her Jewish heritage while making the romantic and family comedy alongside Jonah Hill.
Growing up, London recalls being teased by her cousins on her mother's side for not being black enough and then feeling out of place when she visited her father's white side of her identity. Despite struggling with that for a while, she eventually understood herself better and has kept that confidence with her ever since.
Being Raised by One Parent Helped Lauren London Deal With Being a Single Mother
After her parents divorced when she was just three, London was raised by her single mother, and her experiences from that have been helpful in her motherhood as well. The actress is a mother of two sons, Kameron Carter with Lil Wayne and Kross Ermias Asghedom with the late Nipsey Hussle.
Being a single mother is never easy, even for someone as rich and famous as London. A parent has to be there for her children, which can be hard when you are a working single mother. However, one positive that can be taken is that it is not impossible, and many women have done it successfully. London noted:
"I know I can do it: there's a lot of mothers that work. I got the blueprint from my mother, who was a working mom, so I just get it done."
