When faced with the most difficult situations, some people turn to the heavens to ask for some much-needed help. That was the painful reality of a disabled man named Wayne, who was forced to the streets after being unable to afford a home.

One day, he was struggling to climb up an icy hill in his wheelchair when a couple spotted him. Amy and Erick Hartsoch were returning home when they decided to stop their car to help the struggling man.

Choosing to Do Something Ordinary

It wasn't anything out of the ordinary for Amy and Erik, as they believed anyone who saw the man struggling would have done the same. While they were helping him, they discovered that he had more struggles than what met the eye.

Wayne was currently living at a motel, which was paid for by another good Samaritan. However, it only was only good for two nights, and that particular night was his last.

Only two days before meeting [Amy and Erik] on the hill, [Wayne] had prayed to God asking for help.

Wayne Faced Difficult Circumstances

The next day, Wayne would have to return to living on the icy cold street. The Hartsochs couldn't fathom ever living on the street, especially with the weather conditions in the South Dakota area.

Thus, Amy didn't want to walk away after helping Wayne up the hill. She wanted to help him, so she and her husband took it upon themselves to do just that.

They drove him back to his motel and paid to extend his stay there for another week. But knowing this was a band-aid solution to a much bigger problem, the couple didn't stop there.

Amy shared the story of Wayne on Facebook, and with the help of her family and friends, they were able to collect a whopping $6,350 in donations.

A Sudden Twist of Fate

The money was enough to get Wayne a place to stay until April. He was even gifted a brand-new wheelchair, which was a lot sturdier than the one he was using.

Wayne considered the Hartsochs' kindness a great blessing. In fact, only two days before meeting them on the hill, he had prayed to God asking for help.

"I wasn't expecting the blessing," he admitted. "I'm a man of faith. God brought Amy into my life."

Thanking God for the Blessings

Amy and her husband, who also believe in God, saw the incident as an example of God's greatness. Amy affirmed:

"God is real, He is here, He is at work! It encourages my heart to not lose hope and to keep listening when God nudges me to act on something."

Ultimately, they found comfort in knowing that while they couldn't change the entire world, they were able to change the world for one person, and that matters, too.

People couldn't help but commend Amy and Erik for what they did for Wayne. On Amy's Facebook post, they made sure to thank the couple for their kindness, saying:

"You have such a huge heart this brought me to tears.. as I was once homeless bouncing between hotel rooms and streets and random cars.. keep being you and never change." – Jessica Streich (December 20, 2022)

"Rapid City definitely has a huge need for hope, grace and joy. Thank you for helping Amy. You hit the nail on the head with it being a huge problem to try and take on and an impossible one to fix but one person at a time is doable." – Lindsay Loftesness (December 20, 2022)

"Amy when this man woke up today he didn’t realize he was going to meet an angel. Your heart is so kind and pure makes me tear up watching you work magic! Thank you for being you." – Briita Sanchez (December 20, 2022)

In Idaho, a poor 69-year-old widow received a brand new car and $1000 from a Secret Santa after learning she was struggling to make ends meet.
