A man was baffled when his girlfriend showed up with a newborn baby in her arms at his doorstep. She told him she had to go to the grocery store and left the child in his care. Sadly, she never returned. The man decided to take a DNA test to determine if he was the baby's biological father.

One day, Moisés Costa, a resident of Goiana, Brazil, answered the door to his girlfriend, and she wasn't alone. He noticed she was cradling an infant and invited her inside the house. Costa thought she had come to visit him, blissfully unaware of the future.

After some time, his girlfriend told him she needed to go grocery shopping and would be grateful if he could watch over the child. Costa agreed and assured her he would hold on to the baby until she returned. But that never happened.

Abandoned by His Mother

It soon dawned upon Costa that the woman had abandoned her newborn son and didn't intend to come back. He reportedly learned about her pregnancy when she was five months through. While she claimed he was the baby's biological father, Costa's instincts said otherwise.

He chose the first option.

She Never Looked Back

According to Costa, his girlfriend lived in another part of Goiana and called him when she was five months pregnant. Then, one day, when her infant son was only a few months old, she dropped him at his place and left after telling him she had to go shopping.

Costa said his mother insisted the woman would return for her baby boy, but she never looked back. To rule out all speculations and calm his heart, the Brazilian man decided to take a DNA test to find out once and for all if he was related to the baby.

He Chose to Stay

The woman's claims proved false when Costa learned he wasn't the child's birth dad. However, his reality had been altered: he was left to care for a child who wasn't his, with no sign of the biological mother.

Costa could either embrace the little one or leave him. He chose the first option. Watching over the little boy, Davyd Cesario Silva, wasn't an easy feat, but Costa refused to give up.

The Baby Suffered Health Scares

According to Costa, baby Silva fell ill shortly after being abandoned by his birth mom and had to be rushed to the hospital. The infant boy reportedly suffered seizures and other health complications requiring immediate medical care.

But to receive the treatment, civil registration was necessary, for which Costa's mother and stepfather came forward. Costa said their quick actions and kind-heartedness helped save baby Silva's life.

Connected by Heart

Over time, Costa saw how different Silva was from others and required undivided care and support. Silva had cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and permanent atrophy in his limbs. He couldn't talk or walk, and his cognitive and mental faculties were similar to a child.

Although Costa had no blood ties with Silva, the two forged a profound heart-to-heart connection. In Costa's words, "He is my son at heart and my best friend. I do everything to take care of him."

She Never Wanted to Stay

Since being left in Costa's care when he was only two months old, Silva became an inseparable part of his being. With his mother, María José's support, Costa was able to provide Silva with the love and attention he so rightly deserved.

A distraught Costa admitted his former girlfriend visited Silva a few times in the early years. However, she reportedly never expressed a desire to keep him, and with the little boy's growing health problems, Costa could tell she wouldn't be a constant presence in his life.

The Foster Dad's Predicament

52-year-old Costa and his 72-year-old mom, Mariá José, had no plans to leave Silva, 25. But with his foster son's growing needs, Costa worried about being unable to meet the high expenses associated with medical treatment, health insurance, commuting, etc.

"He is the love of my life," said Costa, adding he would never turn his back on Silva. But he admitted he needed help to better care for his son. He hoped to find Silva's biological dad or any other blood relatives so they could provide some financial support.

But most importantly, Costa didn't want his foster boy to be left alone if anything unfortunate happened to him or his mother. What a lovely personification of a father's love for his son!
