Ric Flair Remembers Son Reid Flair on 10th Death Anniversary: ‘You’re Always in My Heart'
Ric Flair was the last person to see his son before his passing, and years later, the legendary wrestler revealed he still had not accepted that his boy was gone. After turning to Instagram to honor his late son, fans showered the former WWE star with support.
On March 29, Ric shared a collage of throwback pictures of him and his son, Reid, in honor of the 10th anniversary of his death. "Reid, It's Been 10 Years Since You Left Us. We Miss You More Than You Will Ever Know!!... You're Always In My Heart And Mind In Anything I Do. You Will Always Be Our Shining Star! Love, Dad," Ric captioned the post.
In the comments section, fans of the famous wrestler showered him with messages of support, as one person wrote, "Beautiful pictures. Prayers to you all on this anniversary." Another fan commented, "Stay positive Rick!! Find a smile and Have yourself a a good day! (sic)," and a third shared, "Sending love big hugs out to you and your family champ with heavy prayers (sic)."
During an interview, Ric revealed that he had been the last person to spend time with Reid before his father found him dead in his hotel room. "I'm not sure I've accepted it yet. He died on my watch," Ric said. He knew his son was unwell but had seen him "messed up" multiple times.
The wrestler said he could remember it like it was yesterday. After the father and son watched an NCAA tournament before going their separate ways for bed, Ric Flair ended up calling the police after finding his son blue in his room. "They came out and said, 'He didn't make it, Ric,'" he recalled. TMZ later reported that Reid had passed away from an accidental drug overdose.
Reid Flair Was Set to Follow His Dad's Footsteps in the WWE
Before Reid's death, he was on track to having a successful wrestling career like his father. He trained with professional wrestlers Bobby Eaton and George South but had his career sidetracked following a drug-related arrest.
After spending time in Asia working at All Japan, Reid was set to make his way into the wrestling ring with Ric but passed away before it could happen. Following his passing, Big Time Wrestling paid tribute to the 25-year-old with a ten-bell salute in his honor.
