Angie Dickinson Talked About Her Relationship of 10 Years With Frank Sinatra in Rare Interview at 91: 'He’s the Love of My Life'

Iconic Angie Dickinson is a retired actress who once co-starred with legendary actor Michael Caine in the classic 1980 film, "Dressed to Kill."
However, she is well-known for portraying Sergeant Leann 'Pepper' Anderson in the hit crime drama series, "Police Woman."

The NBC television show aired from 1974 to 1978, and Dickinson became a trailblazer as the first female to portray the role of a police officer on screen.
Before the series, she appeared in the original version of "Ocean's 11" in 1960, alongside actor Frank Sinatra (Danny Ocean), playing his wife, Beatrice. Off-screen, the Hollywood duo had a reported ten-year love affair.

The pair reportedly met in 1953 during an appearance on the "Colgate Comedy Hour" when Sinatra boldly asked his bodyguard to summon Dickinson to his dressing room.
During her appearance at the TCM Classic Film Festival in Hollywood in March 2015, she spoke candidly about the encounter, detailing their first conversation.

Upon meeting, he asked her whether she was involved with someone else, and she said yes. In response, he asked for her phone number, and she gave it to him.
Dickinson described Sinatra as one of the most charming men she had ever come across, noting he also had a great singing voice:
"He had no choice but to let it all hang out. He was just magic – he said it like it was, walked the walk."

While filming "Ocean's 11," the movie's director asked Dickinson and Sinatra for a second take following one of their scenes which did not sit well with Sinatra.
He was famously known for being impatient when it came to filming, and she said they both knew that there was no need for another take, and he went home as a result.
Rare Interview of 91-Year-Old Dickinson About Love
In a recent rare interview, Dickinson recalled her relationship with Sinatra, with whom she never intended to fall in love at first but admitted:
"He's the love of my life."

She beamed while talking about him and said it felt good to think of him. Once again, Dickinson mentioned Sinatra's singing abilities and acting talent. In her eyes, the New Jersey native was remarkable, adding, "He was difficult, wonderful, brave, and foolish."
Amid the interview, the "Rio Bravo" star revealed she and Sinatra almost walked down the aisle in 1964, but that never happened. Dickinson explained:
"We talked about it. We were so comfortable with each other that it wasn't necessary, but it came up a couple of times. I wasn't keen on it. I would not have wanted to take that challenge on."
Sinatra had a wild lifestyle that included late-night outings, and she was not up for it. Moreover, Dickinson loved Sinatra's former wife, Nancy Barbato, with whom he was married from 1939 to 1951.

She spoke highly of Barbato and shared, "She just looked at me like another friend of their daughters." That said, Dickinson wed songwriter Burt Bacharach in 1965. But the two split in 1981 following 16 years of marriage.
The star is now preparing for the TCM Classic Film Festival set to take place on April 13, 2023, at Hollywood's TCL Chinese Theatre after choosing a private life in recent years because of tragedy.
Dickinson Chose a Private Life After Her Daughter’s Death: She Is a Walker & Bicyclist
Aside from her love life, Dickinson is a mother of one. She and Bacharach welcomed their only child together, daughter Nikki, in 1966.
In a February 2019 interview, she described her child as intelligent, hilarious, and incredible, adding she has fond memories of them together.

Nikki was born three months premature and suffered chronic health issues, including Asperger's syndrome and severe eyesight. The doting mom revealed her daughter used to get physical with her because she was frustrated with her condition and could not cope.
Consequently, Nikki took her own life at 40 on January 4, 2007. "She was a wonderful, wonderful gift," said her loving parent following her death.
It has been 16 years since Nikki's untimely passing, and her famous mom is now 91 years old. Dickinson, who was also married to football player Gene Dickinson from 1952 to 1960, never remarried.

At age 79, she expressed modesty after being told she still looked good. Dickinson said she looked her age and divulged she often went for a walk or biked. In addition, she was enjoying her retirement and felt two decades younger.
When asked if she had any regrets during a March 2019 interview, the television star said there were some things she wished she could have done differently. Despite the difficult moments, Dickinson, who lives alone in her Beverly Hills home, has had a "great time" with regard to her successful acting career.
