Concerned Parents Whose Daughter 'Changed Drastically' since Day Care Sew Recorder in Her Jacket
After they noticed their daughter Isla behaving abnormally, parents Carley Hernandez and Aaron did some sleuthing. Their findings left them devastated.
No one should underestimate a parent's instinct to protect their child from harm and the lengths they will go to to ensure their little one's safety. Two daycare workers did not consider this when they allegedly crossed the line.
In December 2022, a mother from San Antonio, Carley Hernandez, and her husband, Aaron, noticed that their daughter, Isla, was behaving strangely, and they became concerned. Sensing something strange was afoot, they chose to take action. Here's the whole story.

The Shocking Truth
Carley felt as if something was not right when their almost two-year-old daughter went through notable weight reduction and did not acknowledge them when they used her name. Isla's mother recalled:
"My daughter changed drastically. She had started being really, really violent. Hitting, kicking, screaming."
When she found out why her daughter had been acting that way, Carley contacted the CPS (Child Protection Services). A police report was filed, with the authorities reportedly referring the case to the Special Victims Unit (SVU).

Carley became determined to investigate their daughter's daycare as the possible source of her child's distress when she witnessed her little girl being denied water there. However, she was unprepared for what was to come, with her saying:
"What we captured on the recording was, was way worse than what I thought my daughter was going through."
The MossRock KinderCare Learning Center's National Accreditation was initially suspended by the National Association of Education for Young Children (NAEYC) while the Texas Health and Human Services opened an investigation.

These repercussions would never have occurred if Carley had not sewn a recorder into her daughter's vest before taking her to the daycare on December 20, 2022. Upon listening to the recording after Isla came home, the concerned mother took immediate action.
Aaron's wife recalled that it was only an hour into listening to the recording when she decided to pick up the phone and call CPS. She also filed a police report, handed the seven-hour recording to the daycare center, and posted about the horrifying recording on Facebook.
This abusive language was continuous, lasting throughout the seven hours of the recording.

It turned out that the alleged culprits of their daughter's distress were two daycare workers. The extensive recording shows two individuals verbally abusing the children through aggressive language and profanity, with the babies responding in distressed cries. One of the daycare worker's alleged statements was:
"I'm gonna go, and I'm going to beat both of y’all. That's what I'm going to do."
The recording also shows these individuals threatening to make one of the children eat soap, calling one child a profane name, and employing a death threat. In their own words, "Touch it, and you die." This abusive language was continuous, lasting throughout the seven hours of the recording.

The Response and Actions Taken by the Daycare
Since the incident, the daycare center has prohibited the two teachers from any KinderCare facility. On top of this, a spokesperson for KinderCare made an official statement, conveying that the concerned daycare workers' behavior was unacceptable and not representative of their standards or values, with them adding:
"The teachers involved are no longer KinderCare employees and will never work for KinderCare, or any of our brands, again. We’re committed to creating welcoming, safe, and nurturing environments for all children."

The spokesperson also said that they regularly train their workers to do their jobs in the best way possible and with care for the children. The daycare workers' names remain anonymous.
Despite this attempt to put parents at ease, the damage has already been done to the father, who expressed his deep distrust towards KinderCare. Aaron expressed:
"I trusted these people, and I don't know when I'm going to be able to do that again."

Isla's father said the only good moments in the children's day when they attended this daycare were when the teachers left them alone. No one charged the daycare teachers with any criminal offenses, and there were no allegations of physical violence.
However, by April 2023, the San Antonio Police Department and CPS both said investigations are ongoing, with police detectives trying to figure out if the recordings "constitute a terroristic threat." Since February 27, 2023, the NAEYC has stopped accreditating KinderCare.
Meanwhile, KinderCare did all it could to gain its accreditation back. Carley and her husband are only one of the many cases proving how powerful a parent's intuition and protective instincts are.
