'I Wanted Her to Be My Daughter': Single Dad Adopts Girl 20 Families Rejected & They Are Happy
- Luca Trapanese is a gay single man who dreamed of becoming a father.
- However, social services would not allow him to adopt a child.
- In 2017, he was told he could adopt a child, but only on one condition.
The world has many children who need a family filled with love. Equally, there are many adults who wish to become parents. Luca Trapanese, a man from Italy, was one of those parents who longed to have a child. It was something he had wanted all his life.
Sadly, he struggled to get through the adoption process. Social Services was adamant about not allowing a gay single man to adopt a child.
Despite the odds being stacked against him, the 41-year-old was not ready to give up on his dream. He was determined to challenge the stereotypes of a nuclear family and religious expectations.
His relentlessness eventually paid off after social services agreed to make Trapanese's dream come true. However, he would only get to be a dad on one condition. He would only be allowed to adopt a child with health and behavioral problems.
Luckily, that did not scare Trapanese away; if anything, it brought him closer to his dream. This was nothing new to him since he had been working with children with special needs since he was 14.
So in 2017, he adopted his daughter Alba, a little girl with Down syndrome. She was only 13 days old when Trapanese took her home.
Alba Found a Loving Father after Being Rejected by 20 Families
Trapanese had always been a nurturer. When he was 14, he discovered his best friend, Diego, was diagnosed with terminal cancer and swore never to leave his side.
He went to every doctor's appointment with Diego and stood by him until his final days. Watching his best friend fight an illness taught him a lot about people dealing with various health conditions.
That was not his only show of compassion. He also volunteered at a church in Naples, helping people with critical diseases and children with disabilities. The whole experience brought him joy and meaningful friendships.
Before his story broke out, Trapanese had a life partner of 25 years, and they had planned on having a family together. Unfortunately, they broke up, and the then 41-year-old had to embark on the journey alone. His lonesome journey would, however, not be for long.
Like her future adoptive dad, Alba had already been through so much, even before she achieved her first-month milestone. Her birth mother reportedly gave her up for adoption because of her Down syndrome. To add insult to injury, 20 families had rejected her for the same reason.
However, she and Trapanese were about to find each other, and their lives were about to change. When Trapanese got the life-changing call from social services that Alba was ready for him, he rushed to the hospital without listening to what the nurse said about her.
Trapanese finally got to hold Alba, which felt like a full-circle moment. He expressed, "When I first held her in my arms, I was overcome with joy. I felt she was my daughter straight away."
The father revealed he had always been nervous about holding a newborn, but when he held Alba, he knew he was ready to take on fatherhood.
Now Trapanese's life is all about Alba. She has brought happiness to his life, and he could not be more proud of her. "I wanted her to be my daughter," he gushed.
The father loves sharing the special moments between him and Alba on social media. He has proven to be a doting hands-on father whom Alba is lucky to have.
Luca Trapanese Is a Great Father
Years after they came into each other's lives, Trapanese said, "I am proud to be her dad." He has never regretted his choice, and now, the father and daughter share a special bond.
Fans often get a glimpse of their enviable relationship on Instagram. One photo the proud father shared was of him showing Alba how to clean her nose. After what looked like Trapanese talking Alba into taking tissue out of the box, she eventually caved and got her nose clean.
Another sweet moment showed Trapanese teaching his daughter how to cook. He shared a video of Alba tirelessly rolling out dough.
Trapanese is not walking the fatherhood journey alone, and he gets plenty of help from his family. He shared a photo of himself in the kitchen while Alba was being fed by her grandmother. Alba has brought happiness to her father's life and has also connected families.
The father and daughter also love to have fun together with different activities, including dressing up in costumes.
Theirs is an undisputed case of two strangers who found a home in each other. There is no doubt that the two are inseparable and delighted to be in each other's lives.
