Prom nights are supposed to be happy, exciting, and enjoyable with friends, but one girl's prom night ended in devastation as her friend chose to ruin it.
The teenage schoolgirl, Emilee Perry, faced humiliation and betrayal when someone she had considered a friend put her in a shameful situation.
Emilee's mom, Tracy, shared her daughter's ordeal on social media, and her post went viral as people sympathized with her and supported her.
Tracy opened up about how a person her daughter viewed as a friend ruined her prom night and took joy in doing it.
What Happened at the Prom?
Emilee, 16, was sitting alone at the end-of-year celebration prom when she suddenly felt a gush of liquid go over the top of her head.
Emilee, from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, was surprised to see pop flowing all down her $494 prom dress. It turned out a bully had decided to pour a jug of pop over her on her prom night.
A shocked Emilee looked up to see who had poured the jug of pop on her head, only to see a girl she had considered a friend walk away. More than 100 of Emilee's classmates looked at her in shock when the incident happened.
Devastated, Emilee immediately got up and walked away to call her 44-year-old mom to come and pick her up.
The next morning, Tracy posted five pictures of her distressed daughter on Facebook and described the ordeal the bully put her daughter through. Tracy's and Emilee's stories went viral.
Emilee said she was "overwhelmed" and "blown" away by the messages of support she received from all over the world.
In the pictures shared on Facebook, Emilee was photographed before the prom looking gorgeous and smiling in her beautiful mermaid sequin dress that had tulle mesh fabric at the bottom.
The silver-colored dress with a bareback and a v-neck fit perfectly on the teenager. However, in the pictures taken after the incident at prom, Emilee's smile was gone as she was in tears.
The teenager's beautiful dress was also ruined as it was now stained with pop juice all the way to the tulle mesh fabric at the bottom. Her blonde hair was also soaked in pop juice.
The kind-hearted family, who are from the same town as Emilee, invited the teenager to a charity ball to give her a second chance at a prom night.
Emilee spoke out about the incident and said she didn't understand why the girl poured juice on her when all she was doing was relaxing and minding her own business. She added:
"I didn't even know she was behind me, she crept up on me. Nothing was ever said, I just looked up and saw the girl walking away."
According to Emilee, she thought the girl, and she were friends, which was why she was shocked when she poured juice all over her. She revealed that they had even taken a picture together on prom night:
"It was so humiliating, it was in front of my whole year group. It was a full jug of cherryade that had been put on all the tables for us to drink. I was completely covered, it was all over me. I was so sticky. My dress and makeup were ruined."
Tracy was also devastated by what happened to her daughter. She revealed that Emilee had suffered from anxiety since she was ten and that she had been forced to leave one school because of bullying:
"I went to pick her up and couldn't believe what I was seeing, it was a horrible sight. Everything was drenched. She was absolutely devastated. To do something as cruel and humiliating as that is awful."
As per Tracy, her daughter didn't even want to go to the prom, but she and her 48-year-old dad, Michael, encouraged her to attend it. Emilee chose to be courageous enough to attend the prom, which was held at a hotel.
Tracy added that her daughter's anxiety is now at a point where she is too afraid to leave the house without her parents and too frightened to spend a day out with her friends. Her mother also said Emilee tends to forego sleepovers because of anxiety.
After she got home from prom, Emilee hopped into the shower and used an entire bottle of conditioner to get the pop out of her hair. The other girl never spoke to her again, but one of her parents came and apologized to Emilee and her parents on the night of the incident.
The school, Hall Cross Academy in Doncaster, said they would reach out to Tracy for an official apology but never did.
Emilee got a sweet surprise after her devastating scenario was shared online, which helped put a smile back on her face.
What Happened after the Incident?
After the incident went viral, Emilee was invited to prom by parents whose daughter died by suicide.
The kind-hearted family, who are from the same town as Emilee, invited the teenager to a charity ball to give her a second chance at a prom night.
The charity ball Emilee was invited to was being held in honor of a 15-year-old Summer, who died tragically of a misadventure.
Summer's family held the charity event in memory of their daughter to raise funds for PAPYRUS, a young suicide prevention charity. Emilee said she was privileged to be invited to such a wonderful event for an inspirational girl:
"It makes me feel joyed to be able to get dressed up and almost recreate what was supposed to be a special occasion and be given another opportunity to have a wonderful night."
Emilee was grateful for this new opportunity and said she would buy a new dress to mark the occasion as she was very excited about it.
An Essex-based company, Blue Beau Boutique, also heard about Emilee's humiliating ordeal and invited her to model prom dresses. The company owner, Kelly Nicholls, contacted Emilee after he saw the social media post her mother shared.
Emilee modeled these stunning prom dresses two months after the other girl poured pop juice on her. Her makeup, hair styling, and dresses were done at no cost at Seven Hotel in Southend, Essex.
As per Emilee, Kelly helped her get comfortable during the shoot and encouraged her to push herself and try different things in life. She commented:
"I'm so grateful for the opportunity to do this. I'd say to anyone struggling with anxiety and confidence to just speak to people, as no one will think any less of you."
Emilee, whose harrowing ordeal was turned into a joyful one by kind people, has noted that she plans to take a makeup course in college with a view to working as a makeup artist when she gets older.
