With his trademark dapper smile and his youthful optimism, Michael J. Fox has been an entertainment icon ever since he crossed our screens. Defining television for an entire generation with classics like "Back to the Future" and "Teen Wolf," Fox is an unforgettable face in Hollywood and entertainment as a whole.

However, the actor has been candid about his health problems, revealing a number of years ago that he had been suffering from Parkinson's disease since a young age. Over the years, the actor has remained a staple of positivity, reminding those who idolize him to keep a brave face no matter what life throws at them.

Although he has always tried to remain positive, Fox has had his fair share of challenges and setbacks through the years. He has spoken publicly about the effects of Parkinson's and how it has put him in numerous dicey situations, sometimes even life-threatening ones. Through it all, he kept smiling.

Fox also confessed that he could feel his worsening symptoms have more dramatic effects on his life and his overall health.

It seems it's getting harder to maintain his constant positivity as he ages, though. After stumbling on-stage at a "Back to the Future" event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, between June 2 and 3, Fox opened up about his physical condition and his worsening health. The actor confessed it was becoming trickier to do everyday things.

Fox left fans shocked after stumbling and, luckily, falling onto a couch at Philly Fan Expo as he made his way onto the stage with the rest of his old castmates. Although he briefly hit the floor, the actor jumped back up to show everyone he was unharmed, and the crowd met his enthusiasm with a roaring cheer.

Fox on Living with Parkinson's

Having been diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1991, Fox has lived most of his life with the condition as it kept becoming more severe. Since his first diagnosis, Fox has lived with Parkinson's for over 30 years, something not many with the disease can claim, sadly. He confessed that although he has lived with it for years, it is getting worse.

Fox's latest tumble is highly indicative of how he approaches his entire life.

Fox opened up about his aging body and his worsening Parkinson's symptoms, noting that it's getting more challenging to keep a handle on his disease as it progresses. He explained that although he can try to counteract the involuntary muscle jerk, it often comes at the cost of expressing himself and even talking.

Fox also confessed that he could feel his worsening symptoms have more dramatic effects on his life and his overall health. In the past, the actor has survived numerous injuries. After getting a benign tumor on his spine removed, Fox was in and out of the hospital following a bad fall that broke his arm.

Another fall, and he broke his other arm. He has broken a bone in almost every section of his body, but he kept getting up and moving forward. With Parkinson's, this was what brought about the end, not the disease but the loss of muscle control. Fox explained, "You don't die from Parkinson's; you die with Parkinson's."

Nonetheless, the actor continues to inspire his fans, showing them how he keeps going despite being unable to move around alone for long without aides. One fan wrote after his recent tumble, "He is so brave and strong ! A wonderful person! Has been through so much!" Many more echoed the sentiment.

Fans were especially impressed by how Fox jumped back up with gusto after keeling over. One Facebook user commented, "This guy is a legend and he pulled it off brilliantly All Class and fantastic sense of humour!" another noted, "He is very brave. I am only so lucky to not have this debllitating disease (sic)."

Fox's Loving Support System

Fox's latest tumble is highly indicative of how he approaches his entire life. Despite having a disease that would force most people to take a step back from their careers, sit down, or give up entirely, Fox has continued to work so others could hear what he had to say. He recently released the film "Still" and helps others with Parkinson's.

But Fox isn't doing these things alone. The actor thanked all those who have been present throughout the years, constantly offering him support and a helping hand when he needed it. The actor is lucky enough to have caring friends who have stuck with him, friends like Meg Ryan, Bill Murray, and Katie Couric.

Ahead of his new film, the actor spoke about how he gets through every day, thanking his friends for being there for him. Fox organized a private screening of "Still" for his closest friends, saying how much it meant to him that they all chose to show up, not out of a sense of obligation, but out of love.

Besides his close friends, numerous famous faces have shown their support for the Michael J. Fox Foundation and their efforts to advance research into Parkinson's. People like Brad Paisley and others have pitched in their voices and their names to garner awareness and help those living with Parkinson's.

Fox also opened up about "Still" recently and how those who know him personally have received the semi-autobiographical work. Fox included his wife, Tracy Pollan, and their children in the film, honoring them and the amount of love they have given him throughout the years. Fox shared how Pollan felt about making the film:

"The most important thing is she thinks it's a true reflection of our lives and of me, and I think she likes it a lot."

Throughout Fox's life, Pollan has stuck with him, looking out for him as his symptoms worsened. Fox has appeared with Pollan and their three children in public on numerous occasions, leaning against his beloved wife for support, and with her help, Fox has managed to make a difference despite his disease.
