What Led to Kelly Clarkson's Difficult Divorce with Ex-Husband Brandon Blackstock
After eight years of marriage, Clarkson divorced her now-ex-husband Brandon Blackstock in 2022. The pair married in October 2013 and share two children—River Rose and Remington Alexander Blackstock. Blackstock also has two other kids—Seth and Savannah Blackstock, from his first ex-wife, Melissa Ashworth.
Before their divorce was finalized, the Grammy-Award-winning artist and her ex had been social distancing with their kids on their family ranch in Montana. Blackstock had also been an executive producer on her show and her partner in crime she could always count on.
For a while, everything seemed great between the two, and they had even managed to spend years working with each other while still being honest about needing their own space at certain times. Then news suddenly broke in 2020 that Clarkson filed for divorce, and two years later, the divorce was finalized.
Now coming up on a year following her divorce, Clarkson appeared on Angie Martinez's "IRL" podcast and opened up about how her divorce adversely affected her:
"It rips you apart whenever you fall in love with someone, and it doesn't work out. I think the thing about divorce—especially having it publicized and people thinking they know the whole thing. The hardest part of that is, like, it wasn't an overnight decision."

According to an inside source, what led Clarkson to ultimately file for divorce was her feelings of distrust toward Blackstock. Allegedly, she felt he was only using her for her lifestyle and money and grew resentful. The source added that Clarkson had been feeling this way for a while and she had only stayed in the marriage for the sake of her children.
Concerning her kids, the "Since U Been Gone" singer revealed how she makes an avid effort to do daily routine check-ins with both her children to gauge how they feel. The kids have been honest with her, telling her they're sad that their parents aren't together anymore. Clarkson hopes to foster an environment of freedom of expression and empathy, so her kids feel safe enough to reveal how they truly feel, even if it may upset her as a mom.
Though Clarkson and Blackstock's love story ended in divorce, causing pain and difficulty for them and their children, the Hollywood star bounced back and is reported to be doing better than ever.

Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock's Triumphant Love Story Before the Unfortunate Divorce
Before they parted ways, he former couple seemed inseparable. Clarkson even got candid about never fingding her previous partners as attractive and appealing as her ex-husband. Her first-ever feelings of attraction toward a man were so distinct that for a while, she had actually begun to think she was asexual:
"I honestly thought I was asexual - I'd never been turned on like that in my whole life. I was like, 'Oh, that's the feeling...okay! That's what they were talking about in "Waiting to Exhale." ' I just got it."

The duo met and connected over music in 2006 during her duet rehearsal for the Academy of Country Music Awards with the music group Rascal Flatts, whom Blackstock was the manager of. Nothing happened between them at the time because Blackstock was still married to his first wife, Ashworth.
However, six years later, when both were single in 2012, Clarkson and Blackstock went out on their first date. Ten months later, they were betrothed. Clarkson was over the moon to be engaged to Blackstock and could not wait to let her fans know by announcing it in an excited Tweet, where she detailed how lucky she felt to be getting married to an amazing man.

In October 2013, the couple tied the knot at Blackberry Farms in Tennesee. Two photos of the star wearing a beautiful long-sleeved lace gown were shared on her social media to give fans a glimpse of how stunning she looked on her wedding day.
The original plan for the wedding was to have a down-to-earth outdoor wedding in their Nashville home's backyard, but they opted instead for a more low-key event. Clarkson's justification for changing their mind about the wedding plans was that they planned on making every day of their married lives a celebration and wanted the actual wedding to be intimate and sentimental.
