Patrick Cassidy was born to be an actor. As the son of the famous Shirley Jones, Patrick had a life in show business since he could remember. In fact, his mom was pregnant with him while filming "The Music Man." Once he came into the world, it seemed that his path forward was clear; he was going to be an entertainer.

With a barrage of film and TV show titles to his name, Patrick has become a well-known face in the entertainment industry. From classic shows like "Dirty Dancing," to more recent hits like "Smallville," the actor has proven himself to be fit for almost any role. Besides acting, he also serves as the artistic director of 5-Star Theatricals.

Patrick is also the proud father of two children. He has always tried to raise his kids to be down-to-earth and with integrity, and he seemingly passed on many of his talents to his offspring. His youngest son, Jack Cassidy, seemingly inherited the family's musical prowess and hoped to make a career as a singer.

Despite how Patrick raised his son, the young man spent a year and a half entirely cut off from his entire family.

At the age of 17, Jack decided to try out for the reality competition TV show, "The Voice." The young man had proved himself to be a capable vocalist as the leader of his high school worship group. He had been a devout Christian since he had a spiritual awakening at Forest Home camp, an experience he shares readily.

Jack successfully auditioned for the competition, making it past the first round. Soon, he set himself apart from many of the other contestants and relished the opportunity to spread his faith and show off his talents. But as with so many contestants before him, Jack fell short of his dream of winning "The Voice" when the prize was almost within his grasp.

Falling out as he made it to the top 12 was a big shock to the young singer. With his dream dashed, Jack turned to parties to dull his disappointment. Soon, the singer was entirely derailed, turning to substances to ease his depression.

How Jack's Life Spiraled Out of Control

Feeling terrible about falling short of his dreams, Jack turned to substance abuse to help him battle the negative feelings that popped into his head. He recalled that he was almost immediately addicted when he first tried his drug of choice—cocaine. As time went on, he became increasingly dependent on the substance.

Getting so close to death turned Jack's life around completely.

His dependency went from something he indulged in every once in a while, to a daily habit, and eventually, Jack was entirely hooked and would spend most of his money on substances. Eventually, the young singer started making bad choices just to get his hands on more.

Despite how Patrick raised his son, the young man spent a year and a half entirely cut off from his whole family. Slowly, he became more dependent on this illicit substance that was taking him down a dark path. And things would only get worse for Jack before he found his way back to his old life once more.

Jack tried stronger things as he grew more dependent, which eventually led him to the experience that finally turned his life around. Jack pushed his own limits too far one night and felt his heart pounding like it was about to burst out of his chest. He felt like he was on the verge of death and decided to start praying for help. He recalled:

"I hit my knees in the midst of that full-blown chaos, and I just cried out to Him and asked Him to let me live, to save my life in a moment of total brokenness, total darkness, [when I] did not deserve to be saved."

Jack recalled how he suddenly started to feel at peace. He commented, "I felt the Spirit come [into me in] that moment and completely overpower the chaos and the drugs that I had put in my body." Luckily, he recovered from his accidental overdose and got the chance to live out the rest of his life.

Jack's Life after His Brush with Death

Getting so close to death turned Jack's life around completely. The young man reconnected with the family he had cut out of his life and left the substances and his dependency behind him.

By 2019, he was happy, healthy, and glad to be back with those who loved him. He shared a photo of him and his grandmother. The images showed Jack and his famous grandmother, Shirley, in a loving embrace, smiling at the camera. Jack posted the snapshot to mark his grandmother's 85th birthday and captioned the post, "Happy Birthday grams! #85."

The three stood in a tight group, smiling happily together, and Jack lovingly captioned the image:

"Fathers this good don't come around too often. Dad, I love the person that you are and the way that you love. I'm thankful for all that you do! #HappyFathersDay to you!"

Later in 2022, Jack spent some quality time with his entire family, riding their bikes through Central Park and enjoying each other's company. Jack shared a sweet moment when they grouped together for a family photo. The singer's brother, Cole Cassidy, also joined them.

In May 2023, Jack joined Rolling Hills Worship, where he showed off his pipes while leading a Sunday praise session. The image he posted showed him looking like he was enjoying himself immensely while singing into a microphone. These days, the musician is singing to express his faith.
