While "Leave It to Beaver" made Mathers a household name, he believed he left the show at the right time. Opening up to Fox, he said he left during his teenage years, allowing him to live a typical teenager's life after.

When his stint with "Leave It to Beaver" ended, he was able to participate in sports—something he always wanted to do but could never do while filming. While attending school (a major contrast from previously learning from a private tutor), he joined the football and track teams and made many good friends.

The "This Is My Love" actor was lucky enough to lead a serene life away from the limelight, a life that many celebrities desire.

Moreover, Mathers was blessed with the support of his mother, who he says never forced him to pursue a full-blown Hollywood career. When he started working at just two years old, his mother had been a strong advocate for providing a normal childhood for him and his siblings. He recalled:

"She took really good care of me. I know some other child stars had very tough lives, but I had a very good time."

Jerry Mathers' Life Now after Finding Love Again in His 50s

Outside of his phenomenal success as a child star in the famous sitcom people still watch to this day, Mathers is big on family. Before meeting his current wife, he was married twice and welcomed three children—Noah, Mercedes, and Gretchen Mathers—with his second ex-wife, Rhonda Mathers.

Two of his kids, Noah and Mercedes, work in the entertainment industry. Noah does sound work for films and TV, and his sister Mercedes works in the HR department of a Reality TV company, while Gretchen is a school administrator.

After divorcing Rhonda, Mathers met Teresa Modnick, and the couple courted for five years before tying the knot in January 2011 when Mathers was 54.

When a fan asked Mathers about his family life, he divulged that he has a total of five grandchildren, who he adores spending time with and babysitting. The doting family man enjoys tending to all sorts of household activities in which he gets to showcase his skills as a homemaker.

Mathers enjoys cooking and appears to be good at it too, as he occasionally gives fans exclusive peeks at his latest culinary creations, like the delicious-looking turkey he cooked for Thanksgiving for his mother. Outside of his culinary prowess, he is an avid gardener and enjoys spending some days taking care of his lovely garden.

The "Still the Beaver" star has lived a remarkable life since getting his start in Hollywood. However, the journey did not come without its fair share of roadblocks along the way. At some point after his time in "Leave It to Beaver" ended, Mathers discovered he had psoriasis, but he turned his ailment into a source of inspiration by conducting events for the National Psoriasis Foundation.

Following this, he went on to start a catering business in the 1980s, a period where he put on a significant amount of weight. Noticing a slight cause for concern, a friend of his, who was a doctor, urged him to get a physical exam.

Minus a few health bumps in the road, Mathers' life has been great throughout his fame and transition to a quieter family life.

Mathers initially refused to take the doctor's advice until she found a way to get him to do his physical. One Christmas, she gifted him with a free physical exam, which delighted him.

The exam led to the discovery that he had Type 2 diabetes, due to his insanely high blood sugar, which was over 700. Mathers quickly realized that he needed to make a big change in his lifestyle.

Due to his plight with diabetes, Mathers became an advocate for the disease. He made an appearance in the handbook and educational video of "Diabetic Nerve Pain: A Guide for Patients and Families," produced by the American Academy of Neurology Foundation. He is also an avid supporter of diabetic preventative and management organizations, spreading the word about the ailment that plagues a plethora of people globally. He conveyed:

"The people I'm really trying to reach are the people who were like me and thought they didn't have to worry about it. I found out how wrong I was."
