"I've never had a relationship with her," David said about his daughter, revealing that he did not raise Katie like most fathers do. She was raised by her mother, Sherry Williams, while Beau was raised by his mother, David's ex-wife, Sue Shifrin.

David died due to organ failure, leaving his family grieving his painful demise. The singer was hospitalized after his liver and kidneys stopped working, and he soon breathed his last on November 21, 2017.

Soon after David's death, news of Katie being left out of his will surfaced. According to the legal documents, the singer left most of his wealth, worth $150,000, to Beau. Meanwhile, Katie did not inherit any of her father's assets.
David wrote his will in 2004, specifying that Katie would not receive anything. He stated, "It is my specific intent not to provide any benefits hereunder to Katherine Evelyn Cassidy."
According to Katie, she got to know her father in fourth grade, but he didn't raise her. She recalled living with her mother and stepfather and said her father was her "good friend."
Losing her father was a devastating experience for Katie and the rest of David's family, but the "Gossip Girl" actress found a silver lining amid her life's difficult situation. She revealed that his death made her family closer.
Although Katie shared a complicated relationship with her late father, the man told her something that significantly improved her life. The actress shared the "great advice" her father gave her:
"Don't ever stop going to class. That's where you should put your money."
