When he finally found the courage to talk to her, he introduced himself. Roderick gave him her number, and he went back to his table. After his meal, he called Roderick, who was still sitting at the table across from him, and asked if she could drive him home.

Roderick, who worked as an executive at Morgan Stanley on Wall Street until just before she married Joel, drove him home that night but declined his offer of listening to him play piano for her.

However, it all worked out for Joel as the pair married in a surprise ceremony on July 4, 2015. The couple invited their family and friends to their annual Fourth of July celebration at Joel's Oyster Bay estate and surprised them with the celebration being their wedding.

Roderick was pregnant with the couple's first daughter then, and Joel's eldest daughter gave a speech. The couple ended the night with the usual Fourth of July traditions, including sky lanterns and fireworks.

I want to walk around in my boxers if I feel like it. So we're pretty much on our own. I do the cooking, and she does the cleaning. It's easy."

While Joel's two youngest daughters are still far too young to carve a definite path in their lives, his eldest daughter has followed in his footsteps, becoming a classical pianist and singer-songwriter.
