Björk's Boyfriend: The Singer's Dating Life Explored

Singer-songwriter Björk has been romantically involved with several famous men in the past. She was once married to one of them and is a mother of two.

That same year the Icelandic pop star and the bassist walked down the aisle on June 8 and welcomed their first child, son Síndri Eldon Thórsson.

However, the couple parted ways after only one year of marriage in 1987. The "I've Seen It All" hitmaker became a singer-mother at 22. Following the end of her short-lived marriage with the composer, the Golden Globe Award nominee was linked to two more men in the music industry.

Björk Dated UK Artists Goldie & Tricky

Björk got romantically involved with UK artists, British music producer Goldie and British record producer Tricky of the music band Massive Attack. Tricky spoke candidly about his relationship with Björk in a May 2013 interview when asked about his song "Valentine" and if he is a romantic.

"Björk had a terrible relationship with me. I wasn't any good for her, but she used to play me Chet Baker's version of that song. So that's me trying to salvage something beautiful from a very bad relationship," said the rapper. He further explained:

"Not her being bad, me. I couldn't see how good to me she was and how good for me she was. I wish I could say that to her now."

Björk's Long-Term Relationship with Artist Matthew Barney

In 2000, Björk crossed paths with contemporary artist Matthew Barney while promoting the film, "Dancer in the Dark," which also starred David Morse, for which she won best actress at the Cannes Film Festival.

Barney is the multi-media artist responsible for the "Cremaster" project in New York since the early 1990s and has exhibited his work everywhere, from MOMA to the Venice Biennale.

The sculptor has won critical acclaim and was once dubbed "the most important American artist of his generation." Barney became a household name because of stellar work.

The surrealist filmmaker and Björk started dating soon after meeting. They welcomed a daughter named Isadora Bjarkardottir Barney on October 3, 2002. The couple also collaborated on the film, "Drawing Restraint 9," in 2005 and lived in New York City before breaking up after 13 years.

In an October 2016 interview, the "Human Behavior" singer got candid about her breakup with Barney while admitting that she is big on having a family:

"I think the soulmate thing for me distributes over quite a lot of people. I have a really good group of girlfriends and most of them are artists as well. I think the biggest death for me was the death of this idea of family. I have a big family in Iceland, and they all have long-term partners and children."

Things took a twisted turn when Barney sued her over custody of their then 12-year-old daughter in 2015. The father of one claimed Björk was hogging their child.

Barney stated their daughter wanted to spend equal time with her mom and dad. However, the mother of two demanded more time for the child's time, he said. He accused Björk of acting like she has more rights to their daughter than he does as a father.

Björk, who splits her time between Brooklyn-Heights and Reykjavik, ended her relationship with the father of her child in 2013 and blamed him for breaking up their family as he ran off with another woman.

In a November 2017 interview, Björk was asked about how she is when it comes to dating, and she quickly shut down the use of "dating." The Academy Award winner expressed:

"Oh, for me, that word is so ridiculous! [..] I definitely don't date, like go to a restaurant all dressed up."

Björk's last rumored boyfriend was chef Alexander Jallow. The rumors began after the two were reportedly spotted in public together on numerous occasions in Iceland in April 2021.

At some point, they were seen holding hands and sitting down for drinks with friends in the western town of the city. Jallow is from Gambia and founded the restaurant Ogolúgó which specializes in African cuisines. When asked about his rumored relationship with Björk, he said, "No comment."
