Shane Dawson's Brothers: He Shares the Spotlight with Jerid While Jacob Remains Private
Longtime YouTuber Shane Dawson based much of his early content on his upbringing. He is one of three brothers, alongside Jacob and Jerid Yaw. Shane has included Jerid in his work, but the same can't be said for Jacob. Fans now suspect their relationship is estranged.
In 2019, a Reddit user posed the question, "Why is Shane estranged from his other brother Jacob?" A follower of Shane Dawson's content, this person shared their observation that Shane rarely spoke of or included his brother, Jacob, in his videos.
Two years before, Shane had posted a video giving his audience an overview of his past as a prelude to his then-upcoming series. The user noted that the comedian only included childhood photos of himself and his other brother, Jerid.

In the two memoirs under his name, Shane reportedly didn't mention Jacob. The user also observed that Jacob didn't appear on Shane's Twitter account and cited one of his alleged 2009 tweets they thought was "almost bizarre," which read:
"I have such an amazing support group. my mom. my brother. my friends. and you guys. I'm so blessed. good night. (sic)"
The user went as far as saying, "It's like Shane does everything to act like he only has one brother." It's unknown when the speculation began, but Shane has yet to address his allegedly estranged relationship with his brother.

Netizens Speculate Theories about Shane Dawson's Brother, Jacob Yaw
In the post discussed above, the Reddit user said Jacob was rumored to be a drug addict, and Shane had "cut him off," but this was alleged. The discussion continued in the comments, with one person saying Jacob appeared in one or two of Shane's earlier daily vlogs.
"Shane even introduced him and said something like ‘Yeah, I have another brother!’ Jacob seemed a bit shy. Can't remember which vlogs, Shane made some of them private," the commenter added.
Others wondered if Jacob was adopted, but that, too, remains to be confirmed. What is known is that Shane's mother, Teresa Yaw, confirmed that Jacob was her son and revealed that he lived on the East Coast.

Shane Dawson Said He Developed He Grew Closer with His Brothers after His Father Left
In 2017, Shane started a series where he confronted people from his past, including his mom and dad, to deal with and resolve old hurts. In the first one, he gives an overview of his childhood, revealing that his parents had a tumultuous relationship.
They fought often, and because of those arguments, Shane grew afraid of his dad. He recalled, "Me and my brothers became really close, mainly because we were afraid of my dad." Shane said his father often took his anger out on his mom and siblings.
Although Shane doesn't mention Jacob by name, from his words, it appears they are in each other's lives. Therefore, it might be safe to assume that Jacob only prefers to live privately. Conversely, other influencers have shared insight on their siblings, including Charli D'Amelio and David Dobrik.
