Jalen Hurts' Dad Is a Football Coach – All We Know About Averion Hurts Sr

NFL quarterback Jalen Hurts has had a significantly successful career, reflected in his status as the player with the most compensation in NFL history. His career began at a young age when his father, Averion Hurts Sr, was his high school football coach.

Jalen Hurts is a highly successful NFL quarterback who learned a lot of skills from his father, Averion Hurts Sr. His father was a teacher but subsequently became a football coach.

Before his educational vocation had a significant career in football as well, via a Howard Payne University Scholarship; Jalen Hurts's dad shone at playing track and football. His football pursuits ended when his knee got injured.

Coaching a Future Pro

Averion Hurts Sr. is a football head coach at Channelview High School, from where he and his sons, Averion Jr. and Jalen, all graduated. He was also his sons' coach. As he stated:

"When you are a coach's kid, you grow up around football or whatever sport it is. You grow up in the field house. With that for both of my sons, it was like their day care. My sons get the same speech all my players get. It is not a different speech, it is the same one."

The proud father stated that he treated his sons equally with the other players because he wanted every young man who left Channelview Independent School District to be successful when they graduated.

Averion Hurts Sr. Speaks Out about His Son's Career

Speaking about Jalen's football career, he said that his son always had a deep love for the game, which inspired him to be the best. Averion expressed:

"...he has a burning desire to be the best that he can be, and he's not afraid to work for it."

The father stated that Jalen had faced many challenges along the way. However, he believes that this has made his son stronger. He expressed his pride in Jalen and once stated, "... it's been very humbling and it's a blessing."

Jalen Hurts Pays for His Sister's Tuition

Averion Jr., Jalen's brother, played Pro-style Quarterback when he attended Channelview. Like his father, he also coached football in 2019. Averion Jr. attended Kilgore J.C. graduating in the class of 2015. When Jalen received his first paycheck from the NFL worth millions, he put aside $70,000 toward his sister's, Kynnedy Hurts, tuition. In 2021, he spoke about this:

"I haven't really talked about this one to anybody yet, not even my parents or my sister even. Just in case she needs it in the future..."

He explained that she was 16, played volleyball, and believed she would achieve great things as she grew older. He also spent money on himself, such as getting a Kobe Bryant jacket, giving to charity, and saving most of his money.

More about Jalen Hurts' Mother

His mother, Pamela Hurts, is not in sports but is invested in education. She obtained a bachelor's business administration degree and a master's in counseling. She worked in the education sector in the same district as her husband.

She taught grades six to eight as a teacher for special education in math at Anthony Aguirre Junior High. She was also the school's Special Services Department Chair. Like Jalen's father, Pamela remains a highly supportive parent of her son's football career.
