When the power couple announced their split in 2022, the public saw only a carefully worded goodbye. Behind closed doors, however, the end of their marriage was reportedly far more painful than anyone realized.
Tom Brady is the subject of a new biography by writer Lars Anderson, titled "Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness." Released on Tuesday, September 29, the book reveals fresh details about the collapse of the former NFL star's marriage to Gisele Bündchen.

Brady, 49, and Bündchen, 46, who share son Benjamin and daughter Vivian, had been married for 13 years when they separated and finalized their divorce in October 2022.
According to an advance copy obtained by People, the book offers a closer look at the final chapter of their marriage and the toll the split took on the athlete. Here are the four biggest revelations from "Brady."

The couple had reportedly clashed over football and family for some time, but the moment Bündchen decided to walk away came from an unlikely source. Anderson writes that the supermodel looked to astrology to guide her decision.
"Then one day, Gisele, who is really into astrology, basically looked into the stars and told Tom, 'We're not compatible.' And just like that, she was done," the source alleged in the book.

"'But what triggered that? Was it the years of feeling like she wasn't his top priority? That he kept playing when she'd asked him to step away? Maybe," the source continued.
"Or was there a particular spiritual adviser telling her, 'Hey, this relationship is bad for you. Get out of it now. Even the stars are telling you that.' One thing is certain: In no way, shape or form was this a normal marital breakdown," the excerpt read.

Brady showed up to training camp in 2022 nearly 20 pounds lighter, leaving his coaches and teammates worried that he "was ill." Anderson spoke with former Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians, who recalled that turbulent time.
"It was very clear that the reason for the weight loss was the stress from the personal issues he was dealing with," Arians said, adding that the quarterback "looked like a cancer patient with really good hair. But his problems were clearly impacting his physical well-being."
Arians described Brady as someone who "prides himself on his physical condition," which made the NFL star's dramatic weight loss all the more "jarring" for those who knew him. "And he just seemed miserable, not even close to the Tom we all loved. He was so stressed," Arians said.

In the summer of 2022, Brady requested "an extended leave from camp" so he could work on his relationship with Bündchen privately in the Bahamas. Just months later, in October of that year, the couple shocked fans by announcing their divorce.
Brady reportedly told [quarterbacks coach Clyde] Christensen of his leave at the time, "I've got to take care of some personal things."

According to the excerpt from the book, Christensen recalled Brady's "lifeless stare" and speculated that the Super Bowl champion "may have been experiencing a form of psychological shock."
"Something had blindsided him — something very bad and something that had completely devitalized the forty-five-year-old man," Christensen said.

Bündchen and her new husband, jiu-jitsu instructor Joaquim Valente, welcomed their son in February 2025. The pair later tied the knot in an ultra-private ceremony on December 3 of the same year.
In an excerpt from the book, Anderson claims, "According to a friend of Brady's, he was absolutely 'stung' that she had become pregnant roughly two years after their divorce."
The couple has yet to publicly reveal their son's first name, but a source told People that the little one's middle name is River. Bündchen and Valente do, however, offer fans the occasional peek at their baby boy on social media.
