Meghan Markle’s Father Faces Resurfaced Allegations From Ex-Wife’s Letter Amid Reported Investigation

Authorities in the Philippines say forensic findings in an ongoing probe are expected within a week. Meanwhile, the retired lighting director insists the claims against him are nothing but lies.

Meghan Markle's estranged father, Thomas Markle Sr., is facing new allegations after a letter his first wife, Roslyn Loveless, submitted to authorities came to light, revealing disturbing claims about his real reasons for moving to the Far East.

According to the letter, which Loveless sent to the U.K.'s Metropolitan Police in 2019, Thomas Sr. allegedly told her that he relocated to Thailand and the Philippines because "12-year-olds are legal there."

The seven-page letter, obtained by The Sun, was addressed to Scotland Yard's Fixated Threat Assessment Centre (FTAC), which analyzes intelligence about threats posed to the Royal Family and VIPs by obsessive individuals.

In it, Loveless wrote, "I questioned Thomas Snr — he denied [child sex abuse] accusation but stated that he went to the Philippines and Thailand because 12-year-olds are legal there."

The letter also accused Thomas Sr. and another individual of posing a threat to the safety of the Duchess of Sussex and her husband, Prince Harry.

Authorities decided to share the information with the couple, and Royalty Protection officers passed it on to their office. Because the alleged incidents reportedly took place abroad, the Met did not have jurisdiction to investigate them.

However, the force admitted over the weekend that it had failed to refer the matters raised in the letter to the relevant overseas authorities, who could have looked into them.

In 2019, the legal age of sexual consent in the Philippines was 12, although paying for sex with anyone under 18 remained illegal. In 2022, the country raised the minimum age of consent from 12 to 16.

Loveless, who was married to the Duchess of Sussex's father from 1965 to 1975, passed away in 2024. News of her letter comes as Thomas Sr. faces an investigation over "hundreds, if not thousands" of child sexual abuse images allegedly discovered in his home in Cebu, Philippines.

Thomas Sr.'s son, Thomas Jr., allegedly found the materials inside several boxes and turned them over to local police, according to The Sun. The former lighting director, 82, denied the allegations to the Daily Mail, calling them "sick lies."

"I'm shocked, I'm hurt and I'm very upset that my son is making these accusations against me. I could never do what I'm being accused of. It's the worst thing anyone could accuse me of," Thomas Sr. told the outlet.

"It's just a bunch of lies. It's sick. I have no idea why Tom is trying to destroy me with these lies," he said.

On Sunday, the Philippine interior minister, Jonvic Remulla, told the Guardian that all signs indicate Thomas Sr. may be a sex offender "of the grossest kind."

"In these cases where family disputes are mixed up, we have to consider all the angles," Remulla said. "Right now all signs point to a possible sex offender of the grossest kind. We want to be sure before we release the findings. The forensics data will be complete in a week."

Thomas Sr., who moved from the Philippines back to the States in May, is currently staying at a rehabilitation facility in Florida. There, he is learning to walk with a prosthetic limb after his left leg was amputated below the knee last December following a massive blood clot.

He has been estranged from Meghan since the lead-up to her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry. In the wake of the allegations, the Duchess of Sussex confirmed she had received Loveless's letter and, for the first time, opened up about why she chose to distance herself from her father.

"I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications' distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children, was for one reason: to protect them," the mom of two said. "I trusted that the authorities were doing the same for other families."

She explained that "although the breadth of what has now been uncovered is more sickening than one could ever imagine," she hopes "justice will be fully served and that the priority remains the safety and protection of innocent children."
