Adoption can be complex and sometimes cause difficulties between adoptive and biological relatives. One adoptive family faced such difficulty with their own daughter.

Two adoptive parents raised a daughter with love and support, not expecting that one day their hearts would be broken because of a decision she'd make. Taking to Reddit, this woman, going by the name of Opening_Ad7405, asked her fellow Redditors if she was in the wrong for making such a massive choice.

The netizen explained that she was adopted as a baby and her biological parents were only teenagers when they had her. When searching for her biological parents as an adult, she found they were still together. However, another truth hit her hard; she wrote:

"The thing that really hurt me was that in my childhood and teenage years they tried to contact my adoptive parents and have a relationship with me, but my adoptive parents refused."

She approached her adoptive parents, asking why they chose to keep her in the dark. Her parents admitted to worrying over her possibly liking her blood-related relatives more.

Pained by this information, the Redditor said that she chose to limit contact with them and that their relationship began to falter. So, when it came time for her wedding, she explained that she asked her biological dad to walk her down the aisle. Opening_Ad7405 penned:

"...they were hurt and said that their worst fear had come to reality and if I insist to put my biological parents before them then I shouldn't invite them to the wedding."

She heeded their wishes and did not extend them an invitation. But eventually, the Redditor tried to come to a compromise and asked if both fathers would walk her down the aisle. Her adoptive parents disagreed, but the original poster said she still gave them a while to think it through.

The Redditor then proceeded to post an update, sadly reporting that she was going to have no contact with her adoptive parents and that they would be excluded from her wedding day. The O.P. reported that it was an extremely emotional conversation, expressing:

"They asked me if I can contact them again when I have a child (since I was their only child they won't have any other grandchildren). I said I don't think that's a good idea. I don't know how it could work. They got mad at me; I can understand why."

She reported that her adoptive parents called her ungrateful and that others have said the same.

At this point, the Redditor stated that she doesn't think her bond with her adoptive parents could ever recover. However, she seemed confident in her decision, saying: "I'm sad but also happy for the new chapter of my life that is about to begin. Best wishes to everyone!"

Jenni Lynn Conrad stated that the adoptive parents hurt themselves with their own lies.

However, not everyone was happy for her. When a post about the story was shared on Facebook, numerous individuals vehemently disagreed with her decision. One wrote:

"Yeah, she's not right. It doesn't matter that her bios were only 14 when she was born, she was cast away (yes, she was) and had no contact until SHE made the reuniting effort. She should be (side) with those whom she depended on to raise and teach her about life. She's wrong, hurtfully wrong."

Many agreed with this sentiment, with one adoptive parent expressing how utterly devastated they would be if this happened to them. Overall, the angry emojis far outweighed any other responses, currently at around 1100.

Of course, there was a minority who agreed with her choice. Jenni Lynn Conrad stated that the adoptive parents hurt themselves with their own lies. She partially penned:

"It’s hard to regain that trust and meanwhile she built a relationship with her biological parents. I feel like her suggestion of both men walking her down the aisle was more than fair. Her adoptive parents yet again put themselves before her."

What do you think of this woman's decision to disinvite her adoptive parents to her wedding and completely cut them out of her life, and why?
