A man couldn't help but side with his daughter-in-law after his son began parading another woman only days after separating. He posted his story on Reddit, hoping to hear opinions about whether what he did was wrong.
When the man's son graduated high school, he moved away for college. At 19, he told his parents he'd married a girl he fell in love with.

His dad told him to wait because he was too young. Personally, his dad felt he was too immature to start a family. However, the son did not heed his father's advise, and he and his new wife decided not to pursue college degrees.
They moved back to live close to the man and his wife. At 20, the young couple welcomed a daughter together, and only 16 months later, they welcomed a son.

After the arrival of the couple's daughter, the doting grandparents noticed their daughter-in-law wasn't happy. They thought she suffered from Postpartum Depression.
However, after the arrival of their second child, their marriage took a turn for the worse. They could no longer stand one another, and they separated.

The Separation was Disadvantageous to The Daughter-in-Law
Their daughter-in-law would bring the kids over to see their grandparents, and it'd be then that she ranted about her estranged husband. The man believed everything his daughter-in-law said because he claimed to know his son well:
"I sat down numerous times to speak with him regarding his marriage. He refused to take responsibility, blamed her for everything, even when I directly pointed out where he was the sole problem."

At first, their son and daughter-in-law tried to undergo marriage counseling. For a year, things seemed okay. However, their daughter-in-law decided to file for divorce. Three days later, their son was parading his new girlfriend on social media.

Through it all, the man's daughter-in-law was a stay-at-home mother because his son refused to let her work. She also moved to a state where she had no family or friends because his son did not want her to mingle.
Realizing his daughter-in-law had no place to go with his two grandchildren, the man and his wife decided to help her get an apartment. They also supported her financially to ensure their grandkids' welfare.

A month after their daughter-in-law filed for divorce, the man proposed to his new girlfriend. They also scheduled a wedding before the divorce was even finalized.
Disappointed, the man made it clear that he disapproved of his son's new relationship. He also said he would not be attending the wedding, nor would they be receiving his blessing.

The Man Refused to Attend His Son's Wedding
After pleas from their son, the man's wife assured him that she'd see to it that his dad attended the wedding. However, the man stood his ground.
Not only did he not give his blessing, but he also asked that his son not bring his new girlfriend to their family home. He wanted his son to respect the mother of his children despite him moving on.

A night before the wedding, the man's wife asked him to attend one last time. He refused, and so did their daughter. So, his wife went and picked up her grandchildren to attend the wedding. She dressed them up, and they all witnessed the son's union.

Meanwhile, the man and his daughter decided they'd spend the night with the son's ex-wife. They couldn't bear to think about her sitting alone at home while her children were celebrating their dad's wedding. The daughter-in-law was stunned. She didn't think the man and her sister-in-law would miss the wedding.
They decided to distract her that night to assure her that even with the divorce, she was still family. The man's daughter even joked that now, they could drop being "in-laws" and just be sisters.

The woman couldn't help but cry. She was grateful for the love, and the man realized how badly she needed the support they gave, especially on that night.
The following day, the man's son called him to say he was a bad dad for not attending the wedding. "Few days later, he caught wind that I spent the wedding evening with his ex. He said that was the ultimate form of betrayal," the man said.
The son went on to claim that from that moment on, the dad and sister would have to earn a relationship with him under his terms.
When the man's Reddit post went viral, his son saw it. He was livid and told his mother that his dad was now "dead to me."
Despite the state of his relationship with his son, the man knows in his heart that he did the right thing. He knows he stood by the right person and one who married the wrong man but ultimately became part of the family.
What would you have done if you were in the dad's position? Would you have attended the wedding, or would you have declined?
