Father Considers DNA Test after Heated Argument with Wife Who Blurts Their Daughter Isn’t His
During an argument with her husband, a woman blurted out that their daughter was not his, only to take it back saying she only told him that to hurt him. But the damage had been done, leading him to consider a DNA test and a possible divorce.
A couple was arguing when the wife said something so cruel that her husband questioned whether he was their six-year-old daughter's father. The concerned father took it to Reddit to discuss how it happened.

The man said he and his wife had a six-year-old daughter and had been married for nine years. The couple had already survived a few rough patches that almost led them to divorce, so having big arguments was nothing new to them.
However, in the middle of one heated argument, the wife ended up blurting, "She's not even your daughter!" The statement shocked both the husband and wife. The husband recalled,
"My wife’s facial expression told me she immediately realized what she said. Then she claimed she was just mad and said it just to be mean, it’s not true, blah blah blah. It made me start to think about when our daughter was conceived."

The husband tried to recall the moment their daughter was conceived. He remembered how they were on another rough patch and separated for a while, but they decided not to pursue divorce.
He wondered if his wife was with someone else during that separation. He also knew that saying cruel things during arguments was one of her defense mechanisms. Therefore, he did not really know what to make of her statement.

The husband thought using his daughter against him was a serious thing to do. However, he also felt bad that he had started overanalyzing his daughter's features to see if they had any similarities. He said she looked much like her mother, so it was hard to tell.
There was no doubt that the husband loved his daughter. "I love my daughter. I love being a dad, her dad. I feel like I was meant to do it," he expressed. He revealed that they shared a special bond that he believed his wife might be jealous of and might also be the reason behind her hurtful statement.

Regardless, the man pondered getting a DNA test, but he admitted that the scariest part about getting the test is that someone out there could show up after years to claim his daughter. Still, he knew it wouldn't change anything because he loved being her father.
The man also knew that should the DNA results prove that he was not the father, it would not affect his relationship with his daughter, but it would mean the end of his marriage.

The man realized he might be overthinking everything and that his wife could have just been trying to be hurtful. But it was difficult for him to stop thinking about it. Reddit users also had some things to say about his predicament.
Commenters Weigh In
Someone advised the concerned father to get a DNA test because the thought of him not being his daughter's biological father might never leave his mind.
The husband responded, stating that he did not want to feed into his wife's mean remarks but realized that he might not be ready for the truth.
He also told his wife that he wanted to do the DNA test, but she urged him not to, saying she was merely joking, and making him feel guilty about it.
The next commenter said with or without the DNA test; they would advise the husband to leave someone who spoke to them in that manner. Another person pushed for the DNA test without the wife knowing and getting a lawyer so she could not use it against him in the divorce.
One other person said his daughter could find out when she's older, so it would be better to know the truth now and deal with it sooner.
