Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson Share a Beautiful Love Story

Hanks and Rita may have only married in 1988, but the start of their love story dates back to 1981. The two were on the set of a series called "Bosom Buddies."

Hanks was co-starring alongside Peter Scolari, and Wilson came on for one of the show's episodes. The pair hit it off immediately but were only friends at first because Hanks was still married to Samantha Lewes then.

The lovebirds fully accept each other as they are, as confirmed by Wilson, who shared a sweet moment between the two that reflected this acceptance:

"...he looked at me and he said, 'You know, I just want you to know, that you never have to change anything about who you are in order to be with me.'..Literally, a wave of — if love is a feeling...it went through me..."

Earlier this year, Wilson had her chance to stand up for Hanks when she spoke on his behalf about a huge opportunity he missed out on. In a podcast interview, the protective spouse brought up Hanks' ex-wife, Lewes, and how she hindered him from pursuing a role.

According to Wilson, Hanks could not be cast on a popular sitcom due to his divorce from Lewes. She explained that Hanks was offered the titular male role in "When Harry Met Sally." However, Hanks decided to decline the offer. Wilson disclosed:

"...he turned it down because he was going through a divorce and he was very happy to be not married..."

Despite passing up an opportunity to star in a show that ended up reaching incredible popularity, Hanks has gone on to achieve an incredibly successful career and is revered as an icon in the entertainment industry.

Aside from his phenomenal career, he remains blessed to be still going strong with his beloved Wilson, with whom he recently celebrated 35 years of marriage.
