It was just the two of them until one day when his father hired a new helper in the shop, a young Chinese woman named Barbara. It wasn't long before Barbara and the man's father were an item. By the time the man was about to turn twelve, Barbara had moved into their home and married his father.

While Barbara seemed friendly enough at first, it soon became clear to the man that she was not a nice woman and had ulterior motives in the young man and his father's lives. He was sadly proved right.

What Happened to the Man's Father?

Barbara's family was wealthy and lived in China, but they paid for a wedding and traveled to America to celebrate the couple. Soon after, Barbara began taking advantage of her husband's kindness.

She convinced her husband to bring her family from China and set up businesses for them. The man's father obliged, opening dry cleaners, cell phone repair shops, and convenience stores for Barbara's family members.

When the man was seventeen, his father was diagnosed with lung cancer as he was a heavy smoker since he was fifteen. He suffered for two years before succumbing to the illness when his son was nineteen.

Since Barabra and the man's father had married, she had changed from a nice woman to the typical evil stepmother, who limited the boy's time with his father, meaning the boy and his father couldn't spend much time together before he passed away.

The man had always thought he would take over the convenience store when his father passed away. However, his father left most of his money to Barbara, as well as the house and convenience store.

The man hoped that Barbara would still let him help out, but instead, she rejected him and kicked him out of the house, saying:

One day, when he talked about Barbara in front of Kaye's brother, Mike, he found they knew each other intimately. Mike was a gangster and had spent some time in prison, but worked for a landscaping company.

Mike asked the man if he was talking about Barbara to Kaye, and when he confirmed he was, Mike told the man that he was sleeping with Barbara. He then described how he would go to her apartment for trysts when her boyfriend was not around.

When Barbara began her speech, he played the video on the large wall behind her. He said: "The audience is so stunned, I have time to loop the video and play it again."

Just as the crowd began to become restless, the man shoved his speaker and phone in his backpack and ran out to where Kaye was waiting in the idling car, but not before he told Barbara that that was no place for her anymore.

The man and Kaye then got engaged and found out Barbara had fled the city after being humiliated. All the businesses she was running soon began to fail, and the man thanked his father for showing him how to be strong and stand up for himself, saying it was the most significant inheritance he could have asked for.
