Coi Leray has quickly become a star on the Hip Hop scene and has left fans wanting to know more about her — from her real name to her childhood living on food stamps and why she and Trippie Redd ended their relationship.

Coi Leray is one of the many talented faces in the new wave of female rappers, and her signature style and sound go hand-in-hand with her unique name. The artist also revealed the origin behind her stage name is just as unique as the name.

As fans continued to take an interest in the rapper away from her chart-topping songs, Coi Leray opened up about the duality of her life as the daughter of an old-school artist and celebrity but still having to live off food stamps in a single-parent home.

What Is Coi Leray's Real Name?

Earlier this year, Coi Leray answered a few fan assumptions and revealed her real name is indeed Coi Leray. According to the rapper, her parents drew the inspiration for her first name from a Koi fish. As for her second name, her father ensured all his children had Ray in their names.

In 2019, Coi Leray and fellow rapper Trippie Redd made their relationship public.

Having a unique and beautiful name has its challenges, as Coi Leray revealed people often get her name wrong. However, the rapper never considered using a different stage name. "I thought my name was so different," she said.

Coi Leray Grew up in a Single-Parent Home

During an interview, Coi Leray revealed she had the "best of both" worlds growing up as the daughter of a famous rapper. Coi Leray's father is Benzino, an artist commonly known for his time on "Love and Hip Hop."

However, when Coi Leray was around 9, her father ran into financial struggles, which saw her living off food stamps with her mother in a single-parent home. The "Twinnem" singer shared:

"Having to work at 16, find a job. I dropped out in 10th grade. Really had to just figure life out, and it also humbled me."

Coi Leray — who revealed her mixed ethnicity is comprised of Black, Puerto Rican, and Cape Verdian origin — is the only girl among six siblings, which was part of the reason she wanted to live with her mother.

The rapper added that even though her mother struggled as a single parent, she could still give her daughter a pleasant childhood. Coi Leray said, "It was tough, but it was lit at the same time. I had a lit childhood."

Coi Leray Was in a Relationship with Trippie Redd

In 2019, Coi Leray and fellow rapper Trippie Redd made their relationship public. Their romance blossomed even though the former was not initially interested in Trippie Redd or having a relationship.

However, Coi Leray admitted there was something about Trippie Redd that "got" her. Despite that, the pair went their separate ways, to which Coi Leray revealed, "You know, things happen. [...] We had such a great bond; we was so lit. But, it was just the timing wasn't right (sic)."
