Kimmi Grant Also Responded to Husband Maurice's Intimacy Comments amid Her Cancer Battle
Reality star Kimmi Grant found herself amid controversy earlier in 2023 when her husband shared details and made comments that garnered ample backlash about their sex life. She later addressed the matter.
In June 2023, Kimmi Grant's husband, Maurice Scott, appeared for an interview on "Reality with the King." A clip from the chat went viral on social media, where the host asked Scott if he was "that much of a sexual person" that, despite his wife's illness, he still received pleasure from her.
Scott began his response by saying there was a difference between wants and needs. Compared to other people who "wanted sex," he said he "actually needs sex." Given what he and Grant were going through as a couple, he described Grant was doing as "admirable as a spouse."
He continued: "To roll over and suffer through it, fakes it all for me because, at that moment, it's something that she completely didn't desire. Right? I look at it as her standing by me while I'm standing by her."
Kimmi Grant Gave Insight into How Her Cancer Battle Affected Her Marriage
A few months after her husband's interview, Grant addressed his comments. She was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer in June 2022 after finding two lumps in her right breast.
Grant shared that it was hard for her family to accept, particularly her husband. However, despite the toll the illness took on her, Grant shared that she didn't want it to be entirely obvious. She still went to work and fulfilled her usual responsibilities, including laundry and meal-prepping.
"I think sometimes, when he would see me up and about, it could kind of get confusing. 'Is she okay? Is she not okay?' I think there were times when he thought I was better than I was, to no fault of his own," Grant reflected.
Kimmi Grant Didn't Want to Disrupt Their Sex Schedule
Considering common perceptions of how "sex changes" during marriage, Grant said she didn't want that to be the case for her own. "So I had always said to myself, 'I wasn't ever going to let my husband go seven days without us making love,'" said the TV personality.
Although her treatment led to a decrease in her desire to make love, she still wanted to nurture that connection with her husband. That's why she decided their sexual intimacy would continue, even if she "won't finish."
Her decision is said to have led to Scott's statement in the abovementioned interview. The topic arose due to Grant and Scott's openness about the matter in the reality show "Love & Marriage: Huntsville," which airs on Oprah Winfrey's eponymous network – the iconic host has also battled health issues.
Kimmi Grant on How Her Husband's Words Made Her Feel
Scott goes on to have a short banter with the host after making his controversial statements, which Grant felt was inconsiderate. "It was very much so less concern for me, our situation, our livelihood, and my health. Because he was wanting to make a joke," noted the entrepreneur.
"And I said, 'I don't think in relation to our journey, is there any room for jest,'" she added. It took having a conversation about it and getting counseling for Scott to realize the weight of his actions, but he eventually did. Grant, who's still recovering, said the hurdle helped them grow as a couple.
In addition to other endeavors, she is a registered nurse who studied at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Grant was among numerous essential service workers during the pandemic, and she protected her family at the height of COVID-19's spread.
