What was supposed to be an ordinary evening in the Saint Jean household ended up in tragedy due to another person's careless actions. A 10-year-old boy named Mike Brenly Saint Jean had just finished doing his homework and was waiting for his brother to check it when a stray bullet went through their apartment wall.

The bullet went in and out, puncturing his neck and leaving him in a dire condition. His family immediately called 911, hoping the young boy would make it through.

Officers from Lauderhill, Florida, responded to the emergency shortly after 9 p.m. They initially got reports of a child bleeding from his neck.

When they arrived, Mike was unresponsive and injured in his neck area. They later confirmed that the injury was actually a gunshot wound.

The Bullet Came from an Adjacent Apartment Unit

Responders rushed Mike to the hospital, where he fought for his life in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Unfortunately, Mike did not make it and passed away in the hospital.

The police revealed that the gunshot likely came from the family's neighboring apartment unit. Mike's death "damaged" his entire family, and they remain shaken by the incident.

Remembering Mike Saint Jean

Mike was like any other "healthy" 10-year-old boy. He enjoyed playing games, loved football, and lived his life to the fullest.

"Mike, a vibrant and healthy 10-year-old boy, was the epitome of joy, a little boy that brightened the lives of everyone around him. His infectious laughter and warm hugs earned him the nickname 'the hugger' among family and friends," said Mike's guidance counselor, Donna Smith.

Smith opened a GoFundMe account on behalf of the Saint Jean family, who continue to grieve the painful loss. Of its $20,000 goal, they have raised $6,710 from a total of 113 donations.

His Family is Calling for Justice

While the donations would never bring Mike back to his family, they would help them cope with the unexpected expenses brought about by the tragic incident. "We never imagined we would be in a situation like this. Mike is only 10 years old," his mom admitted.

The grieving family remembers Mike as loving, affectionate, and caring. He was an altar boy at a local church and was well-loved in school.

Ultimately, the Saint Jean family wants justice for Mike's untimely death. No one has been charged for Mike's death as investigations are ongoing.

In a similarly heartbreaking story, a group of four teenage boys were found dead after what was supposed to be a fun camping trip. Their family was left horrified after finding out the boys had met a fatal accident.
