Man Who Got Drunk Regularly and Humiliated His Daughter Loses Everything, but Gets One Last Chance
I recently proposed to Angela. After 3 years of being together, I felt that she was the one I wanted to spend my life with. It was a very bright and joyful moment which, unfortunately, was soon marred by meeting her parents.

Angela didn't tell me much about her father. We didn't talk much about her family at all. The day I met them, I realized why. Angela's father, Dave, came home on the day we met already drunk, and the way he communicated with Angela and his wife just threw me off-track.

Our small family dinner, which I expected to be a pleasant way to make their acquaintance, turned into the humiliation of my future wife. I couldn't hold my tongue for long. With a sharp remark, I made it clear that no one could treat my bride like that, not even her father. I thanked Angela's mom for dinner and we went home.

At home, Angela finally opened up. I saw with what pain she shared how, through the long years of her father’s alcoholism, she constantly endured various rudeness and humiliation. But still, she did not shy away from saying that she still loved him and before he started drinking they had a great relationship.

As fate would have it, her father's reckless drinking soon caught up with him. He fell into debt and lost his job. He ended up at the bottom of the barrel. Part of me enjoyed his misfortune. But Angela saw her father differently — he was still her dad, flawed and broken, but irreplaceable.
I was overwhelmed by a wave of conflicting emotions. On the one hand, I despised this man for what he did to Angela. Angela and her mother suffered from this situation, but her father himself could no longer help himself. I decided to extend a helping hand to him not with anger, but with an offer in the hope of restoring an almost destroyed family.

One day, after work, I went to the bar where Dave usually hung out. To my surprise, I didn't find it there. Having left and already heading towards their house, I found him lying by the fence. He was bruised, probably had something to do with his drinking buddies. My anger changed into pity.

I walked over and shook him up. He barely recognized me. I started my conversation. I was lenient towards him. I explained that how he destroys his life is nothing compared to the suffering that he brings to his family. I saw that my words were breaking his heart like a hammer.

I offered to give him a job on the condition that he stop drinking and stop harassing his daughter. He stared into the abyss he had created, realizing that this might be his last chance at redemption. This was the turning point, and as the gravity of his situation became apparent, his face showed remorse. I saw a glimpse of the man he could be without the shackles of alcohol.
He returned home that day a broken man, ready to rebuild. Apologizing to Angela was not easy, but sincerity prevailed. He asked for forgiveness from his wife and daughter, who carefully allowed him back into their lives.

I took him and provided him with work. Fixing a broken relationship was difficult, but as time passed, new understanding emerged. The man who was once a source of pain has now become a man seeking redemption.
The desire to return to life, to become a support for the family that Dave was previously, to have the opportunity to see and spend time with future grandchildren became the locomotive of his transformation. Gradually the wounds began to heal.

It was a journey of forgiveness, a story of transformation that taught us the power of second chances. The man Angela once feared has become the father she longed for imperfect, but trying to be better. And in the midst of it all, our family found strength in unexpected places, emerging from the shadows of the past into a brighter, shared future.
