A few Reddit users shared some of the things they unexpectedly found in their parents' bedroom, which made them know more about their mom or dad. However, not all items left positive thoughts in their head.

Just as children keep secrets from their parents, there are many things parents don't tell their children. Some of these secrets may be their guilty pleasure, while others may be a dark past they're trying to forget.

Nevertheless, secrets sometimes have a way of making themselves known. A few Reddit users shared some of the things they discovered in their parents' bedroom that made them learn more about their parents.

Lottery Tickets

A person was surprised to find over a thousand lottery tickets in their parents' room, suggesting that the mom and dad were addicted to the game. However, the person claimed they were "dirt poor at that time," and now they found out where all the money went.

Several others shared their sentiments about lottery addiction, noting that it was unreasonable for people to spend thousands for the draw and only win about $50 yet still be happy that they won.

Rotten Ham

Unfortunately, one person's bizarre find in their parents' closet was a Thanksgiving dinner purchase gone wrong. It appeared that a piece of ham was misplaced, mixed with Christmas presents, and forgotten.

When the house began to smell a week before Christmas, the person found the rotten ham hidden behind their parents' closet. The packaging apparently had a gap that made the juice leak onto the flooring, making the area smell.

One person finally found out how their parents knew of all their plans alongside their siblings. According to the Reddit poster, they looked for a charger in the master bedroom and saw a recording device attached to the phone jack. The post read:

"My parents had been listening to the conversation of their [three] teenagers for months! No wonder many of our plans were foiled."

While the person understood why their parents would want to listen in on their teenage children's conversations, it still shocked them.

One Reddit user shared that the most disturbing thing they found in their parents' room was an adoption form. However, the poster did not disclose further information on what the document stated.

Given it must have been a sensitive topic, finding such kind of information can be life-changing and even alter a person's relationship with their parents.

After their parents' recent divorce, a Reddit user found the most shocking thing in their father's bedroom. Then, in high school, the person was asked by the dad to get his wallet from the master bedroom.

While doing so, the teen found a pull-out drawer from beneath the bed that housed a safe. Thinking they would find a pile of cash, the poster opened the unlocked safe and located inappropriate items, including whips, cuffs, a red ball gag, and black leather material, among others.

The person then ran downstairs, gave their dad the wallet without eye contact, and left. They never talked about what they found with their dad.

Letters to a Married Mom from a Rich Man

Another Reddit user sadly found out that their mother was cheating on her husband through letters found in the master bedroom. As the person recalled, they found letters from a man talking about the vacations he had with the person's mom.

The letters also contained plans to marry the person's mom in the future and buy her extravagant gifts. Unfortunately, financial resources were scarce in their household, leaving the person worried that their mom would actually leave the family for another man.

A Book of Notes for after Death

It was emotional for a Reddit user to find a book of notes written by their mom and addressed to each of their siblings. Each letter was meant to be read after the mom's passing, given she had several health issues.

Fortunately, when the person wrote the post, their mother was still alive. However, looking back at when they found the notes, they couldn't help but get emotional.

Mom's Wedding Picture with a Stranger

A person once found a photograph of their mother in a wedding gown with a man they had never met. The mom later revealed that she had been married and divorced in the past after her first husband came out as a gay man.

The mom later ran into her ex-husband with his new partner and had a good exchange of words. All things turned out well.
