At 3:30 p.m. on June 26, Martin was informed that she had breast cancer and recalled immediately thinking her life would be changed forever. According to the 47-year-old, "I had always feared this day would come, but I never really thought it would...I had taken an at-home saliva test by a genetic testing company and mailed it in."

Unfortunately, cancer appears to run in Martin's genes, as her grandmother passed away from the disease, and her mom, though thankfully healthy now, had to get a double mastectomy in her late 40s.

The diagnosis made her feel "devastated and empowered" simultaneously, as the unwavering support of her parents kept her positive. "I trust my father with every morsel of my being, and he told me, 'We got this, and we will fight this together,'" she said.

Four months later, Martin shared the wonderful news that she "rang the chemo bell," bringing her breast cancer journey to a close after a double mastectomy, the removal of 17 lymph nodes, chemo, and radiation.
