MIL Joined Our Honeymoon to Steal My Time with My Husband, So I Taught Her a Lesson She Won't Forget
Jane is on her honeymoon with her husband, Robb. But a few days into the trip, they are surprised by Robb's mother's arrival. Jane is frustrated by the honeymoon crasher, but she knows that Mimi needs to find a reason for her joy again. So, she orchestrates exactly that.
A honeymoon is supposed to be the most romantic time for a newlywed couple. I mean — the stress of the wedding is over, and the couple can finally spend some alone time together. Or that's what you'd think, right?
Well, not for me. My mother-in-law crashed the party.
Robb and I have been together for six years, so when he proposed, I felt like everything had fallen perfectly into place. The wedding preparations were mostly seamless, and my mother worked well with Mimi, Robb's Mom. But I was looking forward to the sun and sea when we reached Hawaii for our honeymoon.

Initially, Mimi said that it was such a cliché — the fact that we decided on Hawaii. But when she learned it was Robb's idea, she suddenly loved the thought of her son having a sun-filled vacation.
Anyway, fast forward to the honeymoon. Robb and I got to the island and were welcomed with drinks and flower garlands. We could finally relax and enjoy each other and couldn't have been more content.
But that didn't last too long.

We were sipping cocktails at the resort's restaurant on the second night. Robb was holding my hand and telling me how good my skin looked when it was sun-kissed when my peripheral vision caught a familiar face approaching from behind Robb.
My heart sank as my mother-in-law, Mimi, materialized out of thin air, grinning like a Cheshire cat and holding a coconut.
"Surprise!" she declared to the whole restaurant, as if barging into our romantic dinner was the most natural thing in the world — let alone the fact that we were on an island far away from home.

Let me give you some context to Mimi's relationship with my husband. Robb is an overworked workaholic. Quality time is a luxury that we rarely get — to be honest, most of the wedding planning had fallen to me because he was always so wrapped up in work.
Therefore, our honeymoon allowed us to revel in marital bliss and be together.
But more than that, Mimi wasn't trying to steal Robb's time and attention — she was lonely. Robb's father passed away nearly a decade ago. Since then, Robb has become Mimi's source of joy. Look, I'm not horrible. I understand the situation.

But now, there was Mimi, standing next to him, with her arm around his neck, explaining how much she couldn't bear the distance and that the thought of us being away for two weeks was too much for her.
Mimi was attached to Robb for three days as though they shared a limb. She even managed to interrupt our alone time in bed with video calls from her room across the hall, telling us that she couldn't sleep.
But enough was enough.

So, I went through the resort binder when Robb was asleep, making note of all the activities available. Then, the following day, I went to Mimi's room at around six, becoming her personal alarm clock. I sat with her and planned her days to keep her busy and distracted.
Don't get me wrong. It wasn't simply to keep her away from us. But it was also for her to enjoy the experience. She was in a beautiful place, so she needed to take advantage of that and make memories for herself.
When the evenings rolled around after that, she would be too exhausted to eat out with us. Instead, she would order in-room service and eat in bed.

Then, as luck would have it. I struck up a friendship with a girl while we both got our nails done at the resort spa. She told me she was on a family vacation and wasn't sure her widowed father was enjoying himself.
That's when we orchestrated a surprise meeting for the elders.

When Mimi returned from her day out with the silver fox, she had a glow I hadn't seen before.
After spending a few days with Charles, Mimi came to our room and told us she had booked a ticket home.
"Already?" I asked her, thinking she had been having a good time since meeting Charles.
"Yes, Jane. But I'm not going to be flying alone. Charles is coming with me. The heat is too much for us here. So, we're going to enjoy ourselves back home."
Robb was happy that his Mom had found a companion. The evening before they were scheduled to leave, Robb and I had dinner with the couple, and I could see that Robb was comfortable with Charles.

When they left, I finally had what I had been craving: an uninterrupted week with my husband. No surprise visitors, no late-night calls about loneliness or sleep troubles — just the two of us.
Moral of the story? Don't mess with a wife who just wants time with her husband. But also, don't get angry at the woman who raised that husband — help her find a reason for her joy again.

Now, tell me, what would you have done?
Here's another story for you: All I wanted was to spend Christmas introducing my in-laws to my twins, whom they had never met. But instead of being welcomed, I was told to sleep in a barn. Alone.
