A woman took it to Reddit to speak about the challenges of living with her mother-in-law (MIL) and her parents. It was not easy to have both her parents and her husband's mother living under the same roof, but one big fight led the couple to rethink their living conditions.

The Original Poster (OP) explained that she was a 45-year-old mother of four. She and her husband, 46, has two 12-year-old daughters and two sons, aged 14 and 15. But since 2015, the husband's mother lived with the couple.

The 65-year-old MIL moved in after her husband lost his long battle with cancer. However, the medical bills were so high that she got well into her savings, leaving her financially stranded.

Adjusting to living with her MIL was not easy, but the two women found a way to co-exist as the years passed. Unfortunately, another tragedy hit the family when the OP's parents' house burned down.

This meant the Redditor had to have her parents live with her. The additional people in the house were an adjustment for everyone. The boys had to share a room while the OP's parents took the eldest son's room.

However, the MIL was not taking to the transition of having her son's in-laws in the house. According to the Redditor, her MIL argued with her mother but got along perfectly with her father.

While the OP was on a work trip and her husband and kids were still out, a big argument between her MIL and mother broke out. The Redditor's mother expressed that the MIL had been flirting with her husband and sending him inappropriate texts and pictures.

When the father received the text messages, he instantly showed them to his wife, and she responded as if she were her husband to see how far the MIL would take it. But it got far enough for the OP's mother to confront her.

The confrontation escalated the situation and led the MIL to call the police on the OP's parents because she felt threatened. Since the MIL lived there, the police advised the couple to leave.

Therefore, the Redditor's parents had to find a hotel to stay at. But when the news finally made it to the OP, she lost it. The mother of four told her MIL she had two weeks to move out of her house.

Her husband did not like how she handled the situation but begged his wife to forgive his mother because she was "old and lonely." However, the OP claimed that her MIL was in perfect health.

The husband was embarrassed about what his mother had done. The OP revealed that she sent her father pictures of her wearing lingerie and said many inappropriate things. The 46-year-old was not willing to see his mother in that light but apologized profusely to his in-laws.

He even had to plead with his wife to let his mother stay with them for two weeks as she tried to find a place to stay because the OP wanted her out immediately.

The Redditor turned to other Reddit users for advice to ask if she was wrong for kicking out her MIL after they had her parents escorted out of her house by the police. She also hoped that the readers would understand her side of the story and help her husband see her point of view.

However, many people in the comments felt no remorse for the MIL. Redditors thought she was the one who owed the OP and her family an apology instead of making herself the victim.

People thought the excuse of her age was uncalled for because she was only 65, which was not a senior age. To many, it seemed like the MIL knew what she was doing, which made the inappropriate texts "vile” and "unforgivable."

So, kicking her MIL out was not the wrong decision for many readers. In fact, several believed her husband should not have protected his mother for what she did. Fortunately, the OP's parents were not angry at her and her husband and only held the MIL accountable.

But since the husband thought his wife was harsh, commenters also wondered what he would have done if the roles were reversed.

Here is a story about a woman who stood up to her mother-in-law after she made several insulting comments.
