Mom Asks for Help Revealing the Note Her Daughter, 14, Left Her before Disappearing from Home
A community is in distress as 14-year-old Ella Jones remains missing since January 6, prompting an urgent call for public assistance to help locate her. Jones was last seen on the evening of January 5 at her family home in Mount Vernon, Washington.
According to Sarah Merrill, Ella Jones's mother, the January 6 disappearance of her daughter is highly unusual for Ella, who is known for maintaining regular contact with her family and friends. The night before she was reported missing, Ella shared what seemed to be a typical evening with her mother. "She was here at bedtime, and we had a normal evening," Merrill clarified. The unexpected absence of her daughter the following morning raised immediate concerns.
A note left by Ella stating that she loves her mom is the last time Merrill heard from her adding, "She has never done anything like this before, and it is completely unlike her and out of character, and everyone who knows her is extremely concerned about her well-being."
The situation took a more ominous turn with the revelation that Ella might have been communicating with an older man she met online. Merrill had previously disciplined Ella for this interaction, unaware of the relationship's depth. "You always have something kind of going on with teenagers to some extent... I didn't fully realize the gravity of it," Merrill expressed, reflecting on the challenge of navigating a teenager's online activities.
Described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing approximately 135 pounds, with brown hair, Ella's last known attire was a black hoodie, multicolored pajama pants, and black Nike Air Force shoes. The local authorities and Merrill urge anyone with information about Ella's whereabouts to come forward, emphasizing that her safety is paramount.

Authorities and Ella's family are urging the community and the public to share any information that could lead to her safe return. Tips can be directed to the Skagit County Dispatch at 360-428-3211, where officials coordinate search efforts.
Unfortunately, Ella's story is one of many among missing children. Another girl who went missing in early January is Hydi Cain. On the other hand, some of these stories have recently been put to rest, like when Alex Batty was found after being missing for six years.
