A man reached his breaking point after his wife consistently ignored his complaints. He has decided to put his foot down because she constantly disregards his feelings.

A man revealed on Reddit that his wife has a "bad habit" of giving away or lending people his belongings without his permission. "I've lost count of how many times I go to look for something of mine only for her to say she lent it to somebody," wrote the Original Poster (OP).

To make matters worse, the wife often takes her time when she has to ask for the items back. She went as far as lending her co-worker his stuff and refused to ask for it back for a month.

OP said he is not the only victim in their household, as his spouse also tends to give their son's belongings away without him knowing. One day, their often quiet son snapped at her when she tried to give away his Nintendo Switch.

OP admitted that if he were not so fed up with his partner's behavior, he would have punished their child for snapping at her. He has repeatedly told her that her actions are unacceptable, but she continues to do it either way.

Leaving the father and son with no choice, OP said he and the couple's son have resorted to locking away their belongings, which is something they should not have to do in their own home.

This has since escalated after the wife pulled another stunt. OP shared that he had won a $300 tent raffle but had no plans to keep it. Instead, he wanted to sell it, but to his dismay, after finding a buyer, he looked for it and could not find it.

OP divulged that when he asked his spouse about it, she told him that she gave it to a friend of theirs. He became upset and told her she had no right to do that. She defended herself, saying that because he had no use for it, it only made sense for her to give the tent away.

OP told his spouse it was not up to her to make that decision, but she kept repeating herself. He further expressed that he finally gave her an ultimatum:

"I had enough of this and said she's either going to pay me herself or get the money from who she gave it to and if she didn't, I'd get law enforcement involved."

This time, the wife caved but only decided to pay him from her own pocket instead of asking the said friend for money. Her family got wind of this, and they stood up for her and reprimanded him instead.

OP said that while his spouse's loved ones pointed out that she should have talked to him first, he was wrong for asking her to pay. They supported their statement by saying that he did not technically purchase the tent and did not intend to use it. Hence, it was given to someone who would put it to good use.

OP revealed his in-laws texted him and said, "I should be ashamed for extorting my wife for money." However, he firmly believes he deserves to be paid for something that belonged to him and was taken without his knowledge.

Still, family members are reiterating that he did not buy the tent, so he has no reason to be bothered because it was given to someone else. OP said he feels guilty for asking his wife to pay for something he did not buy.

He asked other Reddit users what they thought about this debacle, and several said they supported him. One person asked whether his partner also gives away her own belongings or does she only give away other people's things.

Another said it is worrying that OP's wife considers other people's feelings besides her own family, adding that she needs to see a professional. Someone commented that it is "ridiculous" that a boundary needed to be set in the first place because it is common decency not to give away belongings that are not yours.

Meanwhile, other Redditors suggested that OP do the same to his wife. He should hide some of her items and make her feel that pain.
