Celebrity Chef Paula Deen, 77, Dropped '50 Lbs at Least' — Incredible before & after Photos
Paula Deen has taken the internet by storm with her latest social media updates, revealing a jaw-dropping transformation— a stunning departure from her look years ago.
Paula Deen has undergone a breathtaking transformation, shedding 50 pounds through dedicated dietary changes. Diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes 15 years ago, she embarked on an inspiring journey toward better health. The results are evident in her recent photos.

Recent Instagram posts reveal her slimmer figure. In one photo, the 77-year-old cookbook author sits on a bench in a loose yellow shirt and fitted white pants, accessorized with dark sunglasses and white shoes.
Another image shows her standing in front of a table with sliced pineapples and a cup of ice cream, dressed in a white and blue shirt, her noticeably thinner face beaming brightly.
Before her remarkable transformation, Deen's appearance was quite different. In 2005, she dazzled in a black ensemble alongside her husband, Michael Groover, at the New York City premiere of Paramount Pictures' "Elizabethtown."

Another standout moment occurred during a 2007 book-signing event at the 6th Annual Food Network Wine & Food Festival in Miami Beach, Florida, where she confidently wore a crisp white long-sleeve shirt.

Her public appearances in those years ultimately led to a wake-up call from her doctor, who diagnosed her with Type 2 diabetes in 2009. "It was at that moment that I was faced with a choice to make some important changes or risk leavin' this wonderful life far too soon," she shared on her website.

Initially, she kept her diagnosis private but disclosed it publicly in 2012. In an interview with "Today" at the time, Deen shared that she had kept her diagnosis a secret for three years after discovering it during a routine physical.

She confided in her family, explaining her decision to initially keep the news private as she processed it personally. "I came home, I told my children, I told my husband, I said, 'I'm gonna keep this close to my chest for the time being' because I had to figure out things in my own head," she said.
She emphasized that her condition didn't define her fate. "I'm here today to let the world know that it is not a death sentence," she added.
Since then, Deen has revolutionized her eating habits. By cutting out white bread, rice, potatoes, and pasta, she initially lost 35 to 40 pounds, as she revealed during her appearance on the "Dr. Oz" show in 2020.
Her dedication to a healthier lifestyle has now resulted in a total weight loss of around 50 pounds, according to Closer on July 5, 2024. A source told the publication that "she's careful about her diet" since being diagnosed with diabetes.
Reflecting on her new approach to food, Deen highlighted the importance of moderation. "I have always eaten in moderation...You know, people see me on TV two or three times a day and they see me cooking all these wonderfully Southern, fattening dishes. That’s only 30 days out of 365," she explained.
She has also embraced healthier alternatives, thanks to her son Bobby, who introduced her to yogurt as a substitute for mayonnaise. Deen praises yogurt for its similar "richness and consistency" to mayonnaise and enthusiastically recommends using yogurt in any recipe that calls for a creamy texture.
In addition to viewing yogurt as a healthier option, Deen also incorporates more nutritious choices. "I've rearranged my plate, makin' more room for the foods that are good for me," she explained.
Planning ahead, she keeps her kitchen stocked with fresh-picked fruits and vegetables that are always within reach. "I'm not moving mountains or partin' seas, but these moderate changes to my life have made such a positive difference on my health, my waistline, and my spirit," she shared.
In addition to her meal preparation, Deen has also cut back on fats and sugar. However, she still occasionally treats herself to comfort foods but enjoys big salads, lean meats, and seafood more frequently. A leisurely walk often follows her meals.
Deen's healthy food choices are featured in her cookbook, "Paula Deen Cuts the Fat: 250 Favorite Recipes All Lightened Up," which offers lighter versions of her classic Southern recipes. She also shares more tips on cooking healthier meals through her social media accounts.
"Through my weight-loss journey, I've discovered how truly satisfying salads can be! Give these recipes a try, friends," Deen shared on Facebook, inspiring many with her story of health and perseverance.
The celebrity chef's journey underscores that it's never too late to make positive changes for a healthier life. Deen continues to engage with her admirers in meaningful ways.
