Michael shares a son, Cameron, with his ex-wife Diandra Luker and two children—Dylan, and daughter Carys, 21—with his current wife, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Reflecting on fatherhood at 80, the Oscar winner believes that parenting later in life has made him a better dad. Still, Michael admitted that he sometimes gets mistaken for his kids' grandfather. The actor, who experienced both joys and challenges raising children in his 70s, shared an amusing story from a visit to his kid's university.

"This is not grandfather's day, this is parents' day," he recalled someone telling him, to which he responded, "I am a parent!"—a moment he described as "a rough one."

He acknowledges that his second chance at family life, following his marriage to Catherine, has been transformative. It has helped him become a more patient and involved father than he was during his first marriage.

Now, with 25 years of marriage to Catherine, raising Dylan and Carys has been, "a good ride." Though he remains an active parent, he admitted that he's had to step back from skiing and a few other activities, adding, “It's nice having somebody look after you and say, 'You okay dad?'"

Michael expressed deep gratitude for his family life, describing his years with Catherine as some of his happiest and feeling fortunate for the path he's chosen. "I have to thank my kids, Dylan and Carys—they're just extraordinary beings," he shared. While Dylan has completed his studies, Carys has one more year of college to go.

Michael has openly shared his regret over missing key moments in his eldest son Cameron's early years. Reflecting on that time, Michael said his Hollywood career often overshadowed family life, leading him to feel that he had been "a bad father."

In a letter to a judge during one of Cameron's legal battles, the "Basic Instinct" actor admitted that his intense work demands took precedence, leaving family far behind. For Cameron, the impact of his father's absence took a toll, contributing to years of struggle with drug addiction that eventually landed him in prison for nearly eight years.

"I hated the wreckage I saw in my life because of drugs, but I just couldn't stop," Cameron shared. Watching from the sidelines, both Michael Douglas and Diandra, a former model and producer, felt helpless as their son faced one crisis after another. "I thought I was going to lose him," Michael recalled, looking back on those difficult years.

However, Cameron found a fresh start after his release in 2016. Today, he's a dedicated father with his partner, yoga instructor Viviane Thiebes, and is back on track with his acting career. Now, he expresses deep gratitude for the unwavering support of his family, who stood by him through it all.
