According to Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the gunman approached Brian from behind after "lying in wait for several minutes" and fired multiple rounds, striking him in the back and right calf.

The shooter fled on foot before escaping on a rental bike, last seen in Central Park. Since the incident, no arrests have been made.

Brian's wife, Paulette Thompson, revealed he had been receiving threats prior to the attack. "There had been some threats. Basically, I don't know, a lack of coverage? I don't know details. I just know that he said there were some people that had been threatening him."

The investigation into Brian's death uncovered shell casings at the scene engraved with the words "deny," "defend," and "depose," which detectives believe may hint at the shooter's motive.

Additional evidence, including a water bottle, candy wrapper, and cellphone linked to the shooter, is under analysis. NYPD detectives are collaborating with the U.S. Marshals Service and the FBI to track the suspect using advanced technology.
