The affected areas reportedly include north-central and western Maryland, northwest Virginia, eastern and panhandle West Virginia, and central and western Pennsylvania.

An Ice Storm Warning means that at least 1/4 inch of ice accumulation is expected. Officials warn that some areas could see up to half an inch of ice, with wind gusts reaching 35 mph, increasing the risk of widespread outages and blocked roads.

The storm will make travel challenging, especially on bridges and overpasses, which freeze quickly. Icy roads could lead to accidents and closures. Heavy ice on power lines and trees may cause widespread outages that last for days. Falling branches could damage power lines, making repairs slow.

Travel may be impossible, especially during the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes. Officials urge people to stay off the roads and prepare for possible power loss. The NWS has identified cities and counties expected to be impacted by the storm.

In Maryland, the warning covers Garrett, Washington, and Allegany counties, including Extreme Western, Central, and Eastern Allegany. Meanwhile, in Virginia, the warning extends to the counties of Frederick and Clarke as well as the Northern Virginia Blue Ridge area.

Meanwhile, in West Virginia, several counties are expected to experience hazardous conditions. Northwest and Southeast Pocahontas counties, including Marlinton and Snowshoe, are vulnerable to the storm.

Further south, Hardy County, along with Western and Eastern Grant counties, is in the storm's path. Western and Eastern Mineral counties could also see dangerous ice accumulation. Western Pendleton County is also affected.

The Eastern and Western Greenbrier Counties including the cities of Lewisburg, White Sulphur Springs, Rainelle, Quinwood, and Duo are also affected. Warnings also extend to the cities of Rowlesburg, Canaan Valley, Terra Alta, Thomas, and Davis.

In Pennsylvania, the storm is expected to impact several counties, including Westmoreland, Fayette, Indiana, and Somerset. The affected cities include Champion, Donegal, Ohiopyle, Hazelton, Ligonier, and Armagh.

As a precautionary measure, the NWS urges residents to avoid travel as icy roads and freezing rain make driving dangerous. If travel is necessary, drive slowly, leave extra space, and prepare for sudden visibility changes. Hills and curves can be especially hazardous, so avoid hard braking or sudden acceleration.

Before heading out, check road conditions by calling 511 and make sure your car is ready for winter weather. Keep an emergency kit with a flashlight, food, and water in case you get stuck.
